An older Elias Cotton was buried in the Shedville/Slankard Cemetery in Pope County. Born 1796-Died 1836. According to "Early Pioneer Gravestones of Pope County, Illinois" by Michael McNerney and Herb Meyer, your Elias Cotton who married Eliza A. Griffith in 1851 was the son of this older Elias. The elder Elias was the son of Young Cotton and Delilah ____. Perhaps you have already seen this book which goes into some detail about the Pope County Cotton family.
