    1. Re: [ILPOPE-L] John Sutherland Death Certificate
    2. Illinois did not require Death Records until 1926. There might be a "Record" of sorts at Golconda Courthouse. Some Births and Deaths were reported at a county level as early as 1876 as was my Grandmother's Birth in Johnson Co. It was entered in a County Journal, one line, with the date, her name, sex, Parents names, name of attendee, name of reporter. I have always thought there might have been a rather ulterior motive for her record. It seems as tho' the person who attended her birth was an Uncle who was a Medical Student. He is also the person who supplied the information for the record. He must have been so proud as the two older children born in Johnson Co. are not recorded. I also found 'Deaths' in the same time frame, recorded in a County Journal with the same information as above plus 'cause of death'. J E. Southwick
