Is anyone researching the Winchesters of this area? IL, IN, KY, TN, AL SURNAMES: Winchester, Peerman, Moore, Travelstead, Mathis (possible surname of Thomas' mother) My grandparents, Thomas Winchester and Anna Peerman, married October 15, 1905 in White County, IL. I am trying to find his ancestry. The first account of him in IL was in 1894, when he married his first wife, Lou (Travelstead) Gootz(sp?). Census (1900-1930) and other records claim he was born in 1865 in Birmingham, AL. I've had no luck at all finding any AL records on him or his father, who he names as Ben. He didn't know his mother's name. The 1870 KY Census (Marshall County) does give a lead, but I haven't had any luck tracing Thomas or in the 1880-1890 census' anywhere in the area. Maybe this is a bit out of the ordinary for IL requests, and I apologize if so. However, I must ask: Where do I go from here? Hi Terry...just for your future information: I have 2 female WINCHESTER 1873 & 1889, who married into the DeHART family; and 1 female WINCHESTER 1950, who married BERNARD. No locations though. I checked the Pope Co, IL - History & Family volumes (1816-1995) and no WINCHESTER is found in any of them. I will keep your inquiry in mind on my travels. -- carol == Terry Winchester wrote: >Is anyone researching the Winchesters of this area?
