    3. Sophia Slankard, 99 METROPOLIS, Ill. Friday, November 18, 2005 Services for Sophia Amelia Slankard, 99, of Metropolis, formerly of Austria, will be at noon Saturday at Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Dills officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Rosebud. ( Pope County) Mrs. Slankard died at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday at her home. She was a retired nurse at Hines Veterans Hospital in Maywood, and was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Parks of Metropolis and Phyllis Robinson of Greenville, Ky.; one sister, Amelia Casper of Golconda; three grandchildren, David Parks of Grantsburg, Rodney Parks of Metropolis and Pam Robinson of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Edward Slankard; one sister; two brothers; and one stepgrandchild. Her parents were Raymond and Julia Braun Hauser. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Carbondale Office, 409 N.
