    1. Re: [ILPOPE-L] 120th Illinois Infantry, Company "E", 1862-1865
    2. Chatham Cemetery, we have 2, the other is fairly new, about 40 years old, (I'm showing my age)and is across the road from the first, it is the Chatham Memorial Cemetery. The original 'burial ground' dates back to the 1840's, and by the markers there, the families may have dug the graves where ever they wished as in the very oldest part the graves are not in precise rows. There may have been earlier burials but the village records were lost in the mid 1930's when the village hall burned. The old part is filled up but there are many unmarked graves tho' ownership of the lots are known, just don't know for sure how many of the graves are used. Chatham is about 10 miles South of Sprigfield, Illinois downtown. Our Unit from Chatham was 114th Co. B. J E Southwick
