Rosebud has not been anything more than a church and some homes in quite a while. I do remember when there was a store there and a post office. My mother and father were both born near Rosebud. Dad moved shortly after he was born to Metropolis. Mother lived there till she married Dad. But mother lived nearer to the Massac County line and her family did most of their shopping in Metropolis. Went to church at St Stephens Lutheran Church (still there in Midway, Massac Co. IL). The best way to get to Rosebud is to come towards Metropolis on Route 145 and turn right onto Rosebud Road. It will take you to Rosebud (eventually) there are several turns before you get there, but I think it is the best way to find Rosebud. You could surely use the Map Quest site on the internet to trace the Rosebud Road from Route 145 in Massac County to Rosebud in Pope County. I hope? My mother was an Obermark, my dad is May and my grandpa May married Minnie King from Temple Hill, Pope Co. Norma Jean - I have Rosebud connections. My families of German decent RIXIE(RIXER) and WAECHTER lived in the Rosebud area and are buried at St Stephens Lutheran Church cemetery. If I'm not mistaken this church used to be known as Massac County German Church. Is that right? Has anyone had any success in searching old records of this church? Are they available/accessible? Hi David and Linda, My family's farm was very close to the farm of a Rixe family (2 entries apart on the 1880 census). My family names were Wiedemann and Niekamp, and according to the St. Stephan's church records (transcribed by Foss and Lee) they were from the same area in Germany as the Rixe family (Schildesche). I wrote down the following about this family when I was looking at the church records: Wilhelm Rixe was born in Schildesche and was married to Frederike Waechter Frederike Waechter was born in Schildesche too Other Waechters: Ernst, born in Schildesche and married to Caroline Justine Obermark (also from Schildesche) Hanna Wilhelmine, born 22 Apr 1848 in Schildesche Johann Frederich, born 20 Oct 1807 in Bielefeld (Schildesche is now a suburb of Bielefeld so this is essentially the same place) I'm sure there are many more entries in the church records for these families, but I was only interested in the birthplaces of the family members who were actually born in Germany. I thought it was interesting that all of these families from Schildesche settled in Pope Co. together. Judy Foreman Lee was one of the publishers of the transcribed church records and she's active on the Pope co. list, so I wouldn't be surprised if she contacted you about the availability of this book.
