Frederick A. Benard and his wife, Dorthea Helm were married in Frederick Co VA, had their children in VA before moving on to Clark Co IN where their daughter Margaret married John T. Scott in 1821. By 1825 they were in Pope Co IL. And then there is Frederick Doctorman from PA, migrating into Gallia Co OH, down the Ohio River into Livingston Co KY, died in Pope Co in 1845. His son, Adam married Malinda Jackson daughter of George Jackson from NC & Susanna Vinyard born in GA. Jacob Foreman came into Livingston Co KY from Edgecombe Co NC; his forefathers were from Surry Co VA, his second wife was Isabelle Glass, came to Livingston Co KY with her parents James & Hannah Elizabeth Barnhill Glass and siblings from York District SC. Their son William Percy Foreman moved across the Ohio River into Pope Co IL. William married Margaret Minerva Hanna in Pope Co IL in 1836. John Hanna was born in Lancaster Co PA, migrated to Guilford Co NC, where he married Margaret Hamilton daughter of George & Frances Brown Hamilton. They migrated into eastern TN, on to Davidson Co before settling in Wilson Co TN about 1796. They finally ended up in Pope Co about 1820. The Davidson family came into Pope Co IL from Stewart Co TN before 1850. My gg grandparents, Oliver Perry & Leatha Whitley Davidson were married in Pope Co in 1848. This family is one of my brick walls. John & Sarah Wilkerson Chaudoin [Shadowin] migrated from Chesterfield Co VA in Green Co KY where their daughter married Joseph Jennings in 1814. They moved on to Allen/Simpson CO KY before coming into the southern IL area and Pope County. Robert Soward was born in Greenbriar Co VA in 1783 and married Orpha Hurford in Pope Co IL in 1824. Revolutionary War veteran Jesse Reams and his four sons immigrated from South Carolina to Dover, Tennessee [Stewart County] where Jesse died in 1835. Then three of his sons came to Pope County, Illinois in the 1830's, and one, Woody, remained in Tennessee. Bear in mind that Stewart County which is on the Kentucky line is only a down-river float on the Cumberland across the narrow neck of western Kentucky to the Ohio River and Pope County, Illinois. The Pope County sons were Jesse [1807-1856], John [1810-1904], and the Rev. William Reams [1819-1893]. John married Margaret Tomlinson in Pope Co in 1857. My Rumsey family [they are the NEW comers] came into Pope County later then my other families. Richard & Nancy Echols Rumsey were married in Forsyth Co GA, most of the children were born in Floyd Co GA, but the ninth child, Jason was supposed to have been born on a riverboat on the Ohio River going to Washington Co IN where three of the younger children were born. Seth the youngest child is the only one born in Pope Co and that was Nov 1872. (Lela Rumsey Watson told me the family defected to the North during the Civil War because John Camel [the oldest son was drafted and the family didn't believe in the cause]. They went up into IN & Pope Co IL where Nancy had family members.) Richard, Nancy and some of the family migrated to Conejos Co CO where Richard died in 1895. Nancy & Seth returned to Pope Co after his death. Talk about wanderlust!! I have very little on my Joseph Lacy & Amy Siddell Lewis line; they were married in VA in 1795. Some of the census records state the children were born in VA, TN & SC, so I really don’t know what route they took, but Joseph died in Pope Co in 1823. James Yancey Trovillion was the son of Edward & Susannah Carr Trovillion of Albemarle Co VA. The family migrated to Wilson Co TN where James married Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Maddox, daughter of Elijah & Betsey Ann Brown Maddox in 1823. The family moved from Wilson Co TN to Franklin Co IL about 1831, following Betsy's brother, James Maddox. While there James Yancey volunteered for the Blackhawk War, he served from June 1832 to Aug of the same year. After that the family returned to TN and James Yancey again volunteered, this time for the Seminole War in Florida. He served from July 1836 to Jan 1837. After his return he again moved his family to southern Illinois, this time to Pope County. This is some of the information I have gathered on my Pope County ancestors.
