This is sort of an aside to the question about Nathan Joiner. I have a mystery Joiner named JONATHAN, and perhaps NATHAN was a descendent of his. Jonathan Joiner married Polly Whittaker Dees, who might be my ggg grandmother, and who appears to have married someone named Dees before she married Jonathan. I've been looking for the parents of my gg grandmother, Judie Dees, who married Robert Waggoner/Wagoner in Pope County in Oct. 1846. There were no Dees in Pope County after the early 1820s, so I suspect Judie and her brother, Lewis Nelson Dees, were raised in a household headed by someone who was no a Dees. My best candidate to be the mother of Judie and Nelson is a woman listed as Polly Whittaker aka Dees who married a Jonathan Joiner in Pope County in 1827. My guess is that Polly, who appears to have been the daughter of Mark Whittaker, was first married to a Dees and then to Jonathan Joiner. JOINER, JONATHAN WHITAKER, POLLY (MISS) POPE 02/18/1827 00A/0038 00000000 However, Jonathan Joiner was not listed as such in the censuses following 1826, so I haven't been able to figure out where Polly and Jonathan went (possibly with Polly's children) after 1826! Among references I found (in a typed book at the Pope Cunty courthouse) regarding Mark Whitaker's probate records, I found the following entries: - 26 Jan 1826 Polly Dees became indebted to John Baldwin and Jinta Whitaker, administrators of Mark Whitaker's estate, for a list of goods (furniture, livestock, etc.) which is footnoted in the record as probably a wedding gift. However, Polly wasn't married until 1927, so my guess is that it might have all been a gift made to help her establish a household on her own following the death of her husband or folowing a divorce (divorce is probably a better guess, since she apparently went back to using her maiden name by the time of her marriage in 1827). - on 20 May 1828, there is a letter in regard to estate notes indicating that Polly Joiner, wife of Jonathan Joiner, is an heir to the estate of Mark Whitaker - on 10 August 1829, there is a record that Polly Joiner, alias Dees, was an hier to Mark Whitaker. ----- Original Message ----- From: "CSWR" <cswr@earthlink.net> To: <ILPOPE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 28, 2005 10:12 PM Subject: Re: [ILPOPE-L] NATHAN JOYNER tombstone I am *starved* for family pictures of my paternal WALTER family for decades!! I can deeply appreciate anyone offering a valuable family photo, so in an effort to try to identify Nathan JOINER, I did a few look-ups. Hope this might help to identify his family to others. --carol --- Re: --*Nathan L. JOINER, 1900 Census Pope County, IL (Monroe Prct.) **JOINER, John ("W"./from marr.) b.
