I descend from Leonard Buckner and Mary Diarman through their daughter, Martha who married Joseph Newton. I have a guardianship paper dated Feb. 7, 1838 Court of Prbate held at the Galconda courthouse in State of IL County of Pope It states that on that date that John Morse, Jr. husband of Nancy Buckner is requesting that Joseph Diarman release his control over her as her guardian. Joseph Diarman was appointed guardian of Cynthia, Nancy, Joseph D., Martha, Cassandra, David M., and Mary Buckner. In one part it lists these children as heirs of Samuel Buckner. In another paragraph of same it lists these children as heirs of Leonard Buckner. Was his name Samuel Leonard Buckner or Leonard Samuel Buckner?? Cynthia

I'm starting to trace my Harper family line, which I believe comes down from the Lincoln Harper-Eleanor Shufflebarger union. I'm trying to connect from Roy E. Just a note here about the LDS files. The LDS organization makes no attempt whatever to verify the accuracy of information submitted to them and no representation that such "trees" are correct. They simply see themselves as compilers of reports, and family trees submitted to them are reports. In my own family I've found some very confused and inaccurate family trees and family histories compiled from the confused memories of the elderly. Of course, censuses have inaccuracies too. I've found it's best to try to compile data from a variety of sources and keep an open mind. I am not trying to discount the Mormon Church, however, be VERY cautious when you read information in their files that does NOT make sense to you. Someone put information about my grandfather in the LDS files which stated he and his wife had only ONE daughter, Mary. My grandparents NEVER had a child named Mary, but they are both buried next to their daughter-in-law Mary at Rock Springs Cemetery. Perhaps someone made the assumption Mary was their daughter because she had the same last name and was very young and she was buried next to them. She died in childbirth. Just for further info, which may not be significant at all: Pope County, Illinois Marriage Books A-E, 1813 - 1877, shows one: Elizabeth BARNETT marr. to Samuel BURNES on Aug 11, 1849. (Book A, Page 408) - apparently this is not the Elizabeth you are searching In Pope County. HOBBS marriages listed between 1813-1836 were: *Abraham HOBBS to Miss Patsy SHELBY, Nov 03, 1828 *William HOBBS to Miss Elizabeth CASSINGER, July 15, 1830 (Soloman CASSINGER) also noted: William HOBBS to Miss Temperance GIBBS, May 28, 1835 and, Susan Catharine HOBBS to Burlin LEDBETTER, July 14, 1836 Wishing you much success on your journey. :o) === Donna Payo wrote: >Thanks for your reply, but I think this is quite strange or more confusing >as for Elizabeth's maiden name. > >One, there were no HOBBS in the IL territory for the 1807 census. Thanks for your reply, but I think this is quite strange or more confusing as for Elizabeth's maiden name. One, there were no HOBBS in the IL territory for the 1807 census. But there was a John Barnett along w/the Rose's!!! Confusing to say the least!!! The Hobbs don't show up until the 1830 census for Pope Co. and their names were Christopher & Isaac. On the LDS site there is a Elizabeth Barnett whose father is listed as a John Barnett, she was born in 1785, KY, which I was told from the Johnson mailing list, that on the 1860 mortality schedule this list her place of birth. So far its not making sense to me that her maiden name was Hobbs when there weren't any in Southern IL until 1830. Thanx for the new info on the Whiteside. If I learn anything new on this I'll be sure to let you know. I plan on researching this more til it does make better sense to me. George KERR moved from near Nashville, Washington County, Illinois, to Golconda, transferring his church membership from the First Presbyterian Church in Nashville to the M.E. Church of Golconda on 14 May 1911. Are the church records of the M.E. Church available in one of the libraries or historical or genealogical societies? Also, I'm trying to find more information about George KERR's time in Golconda. Are there city directories available? George KERR left Golconda for California, but I don't know when and am trying to run that down. I'm planning a trip to do some on-site researching this spring. Any helpful hints would be appreciated, including newspaper clippings or abstracts available. Thank you for your assistance. Mike Jones Sun Prairie, WI

There was a Bobb in the 1850 census. I wonder if this could have been Robb or Robbs. Sharon
I found an A. G. Robbs from AL living with a Mayfield family in the 1850 census. The wife was also from AL. I think the name was Rebecca. I thought perhaps A. G. was her brother. He was 18. She was only 23. I wonder if this could have been Alex Robbs. We have yet to connect him to our Robbs. Maybe I should say we haven't connected our Robbs to any other definitely. Sharon
Wilford Throgmorton was born in Tennessee in 1827 and moved to Illinois prior to 1852. His son, Thomas Guilford Throgmorton, was born in Illinois in 1852, and his grandson, John Oscar Throgmorton, was born in Pope County in 1880. Wilford is my grandchildren's gggg grandfather. Any info on this family would be greatly appreciated. Jack Ehmer

I have some genealogy and pictures on the Abbotts. This branch went to Pope Co. I met Mary Abbott at the hospital this week and told her about what I received. Does anyone know if they have email? I know they live in Golconda. Does anyone have their address? Steve told me I could just write them at Golconda IL. I have the zip code. Sharon
Thank you for checking for me. Even though he is not there in 1865 helps me in tracking him down. Again thank you so much. ----- Original Message ----- From: "kenneths" <kenneths@logantele.com> To: <ILPOPE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 16, 2005 7:17 AM Subject: Re: [ILPOPE-L] 1865 State Census > Brenda: > > Sorry, not listed in the book I have for 1865. > > Kenneth > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <snoangel@bellsouth.net> > To: <ILPOPE-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Saturday, January 15, 2005 8:30 PM > Subject: [ILPOPE-L] 1865 State Census > > > > Would someone please be so kind to let me know if there is a Nathan Nelson > in the 1865 State Census.
