I'm researching the Simmons family that was from Tennessee and was in Pope County since the 1860s. Anyone else? I am especially interested in death records in the 1870s. Are they available? Dan

Does anyone know if there was an 1885 census for Pope Co. and Johnson Co. If so, I need a lookup for Joshua Browning, his wife Sarah and children Charles (Franklin) and possibly a Melvina. Any help would be appreciated. Margaret

Judy: First, bear with me, my records are a mess right now. From memory, Mason Bird, Sr.'s parentage is undocumented, however, several people agree that his parents were probably JAMES BIRD AND FANNY MASON of Virginia. It is believed his first wife was Sylvie or Sylvia Thacker, married in Virginia, probably Franklin County. Second wife was Catherine Mullins who appeared with him in census records in Crawford County, IN. I do not have complete information regarding his children with her. Circa 1849/1850, Mason, Sr. and several of his children, namely William, Mason, Sr. and John moved to Pope County. On November 14,1850 Mason married Hannah Masina Williamson. I have record of eight of their children. At that time, Mason was approximately 65 years old and Hannah was about 25. Hannah was married first to Achilles Collins and had a daughter, Isabella. She married a William James on 4/19/1877, after Mason died. I have an "appraisement bill" from Mason's estate, dated December, 1873. Mason Bird was a private in Captain Smith Wilson's Company, of Franklin County, VA. He was mustered in at Rocky Mountain (now known as Rocky Mount), in 1815, for three months and served 1 and 1/2 months. There is a Franklin County, WV and a Franklin County, VA. There are many Bird/Byrd's in Franklin Co, WV records, however I am not sure these are Mason's family. WV would have been part of Virginia at that time, however, these two counties are far apart today. Will be glad to exchange information privately if you'd like. swiley@visuallink.com Sharon Guynn Wiley ----- Original Message ----- From: <UdyDee43@aol.com> To: <ILPOPE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 16, 2005 6:37 AM Subject: Re: [ILPOPE-L] Bird-Terry-Williamson Families > > > > Sharon, Let's start with, who were the parents of Mason Bird [b. ca 1785], > how many times was he married, the names of his wives and children. BlankMartha A. Morgan Watson married my ggrandfather John Lewis Cox 24 Jan 1867 in Pope County. She was born 25 Aug 1842 at Rosebud. Her marriage certificates and death certificate do not list her parents. I cannot find her in the 1850 or 1860 IL Pope Census, but in 1870 married to Cox with probably aunt, Rachel Morgan wife of deceased James Morgan, mother of Uriah Morgan. Lewis and William Morgan are in 1870 census of Allen Springs near her. Could they be her brothers? I found marriages in Pope for a Jeremiah Morgan to Martha Isom and of a Reuben Morgan who married Charlotte Drury, could either of these be her parents? Can someone help me? Bonnie
Hello Morse / Moss researchers! Thanks to Colleen and Beverly we have a new and improved y-DNA chart to reflect the results of the testing within our group. Last week I had given you the link provided by Family Tree DNA. Unfortunately they do not let us change the order in which the test results are listed, nor do they allow us to add color. Now we have a chart that groups like y-DNA markers by color, allowing us to easily see who is somehow related and who is not. You will want to bookmark this site: http://user.mc.net/~jjmcard/index.html Once you get there, click on the link entitled "Morse - Moss Family y-DNA". Please note that the y-DNA results reflect ALL participants in our Morse / Moss study representing the central and southern United States even though the chart appears on the Ebenezer Morse Family's home page. We already had the website, so are able to add the y-DNA chart at no extra cost. This should make it alot easier for all of us to understand the results of our tests. Hello Morse and Moss researchers! Beverly and I have updated the MORSE/MOSS yDNA website to make it easier to compare markers and identify the family lines. Please take a moment to view the chart at: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Morse%2D2/ If you have participated in the testing, please check to see that we have entered your earliest known ancestor properly beside your test number kit. Take a moment to compare your markers against those of other participants. If you match all or most of the markers of another participant and you do not recognize the name of their earliest known ancestor, you should contact that researcher. You just might find some new clues that will be helpful in your research! Simply let me know the kit number and I will put you in touch with them. HURRAH !! Yes, you have found her. The name BUSTIS is now called BUSTER. Mom talked a lot about the BUSTER part of the family. I think they are in Missouri now--maybe near St. Genevieve. I also remember the RECTOR & BROADWAY names but can't recall the context. I may have more pictures with notations on them. I am sending a copy of this to the youngest child of Mary Estelle & Clark Drum. Thanks to you and to Carol for all of your help. This just goes to show that if one posts a query and gets no response, just wait awhile and try again. Hang in there. I really appreciate your information, Carol However, I am afraid I'll have to stick to the dates I provided for birth and marriage. The reason is that my Grandmother bore 11 children from 6/9/1912 through 10/28/1933. My mother was #5 and was born 8/4/1919. However, I think Eddyville is correct. It sure rang my bell when I saw the name. I received a post from Bill Whiteside directly and in my reply to him, I said the following: "I don't know very much about my Grandmother. According to my late Mother, her mother's name (Mary Estella) is what I used earlier. I never heard her called by any name other than Stella (without the E). According to my files, she was born December 13, 1890 in Pope County and married August 19, 1911, to Clark (NMI) Drum in Pope County, IL. Since Clark was from Oak Ridge, Cape Girardeau County, MO, I suppose they could have gotten married in Cape. Both of my parents lived in Union County when they were married and they went to Cape to get the job done. As far back as I can remember, probably back to 1945, Stella and Clark lived in Union County. He died in Anna, while Stella died in Peoria. Both are buried in the Walker Hill Cemetery in Grand Tower. "I just talked to the youngest son of Mary Estella (Jack Drum) and he said he has run into brick walls every time he works on this. He did tell me that she was born close to Golconda and he thought her name was Mary Estell, without the 'a'. He has some old tape recordings from a conversation with his mother (died 1986) and he will go through them again to see if there is something he missed." Thanks, again, Carol. Can someone please look up John L. Robs on the 1845 census and give me the family configuration. Also I need the family configuration for the 1865 Census for A. J. Robbs and J. L. Robs. Does anyone know if these census records can be purchased either on CD or in a transcribed format? Thanks in advance for your help Ida Cheek
