    3. Judy, Since there is an unlimited amount of work for me to do on this, I sometimes put priorities based on inquiries. So, I dug out the minutes of Little Zion association of Indiana and went through and made a list of names of members for several of the members. Very incomplete, but more than I had done before. I'll send you privately some of the names for Friendship church. My notes say it is or was located about 3 miles south of Gentryville. Do you by any chance have a picture of the church? I have the name of the person who was the last living member, it looks like it may have ceased to meet in about 1990. 3. Connie's office doesn't have the probate records, they are across the hall. When I went to Pope County to do research, Connie's office was very helpful, but the office where the probate records are located was overworked and I was unable to get to the old books and look at them. 3. Robert, thank you very, very much for posting this. I just found the names of several of my ancestors and the families into which their siblings married in Saline, Pope, and Williamson County IL in your database. I have always suspected that the glue that pulled them all together might have been a church, and now I know what it was. I also discovered from your website that the Friendship Church (in whose graveyards two of my ggg grandparents are buried) in Warrick County IL was also a Primitive Baptist Church. I also noticed that you do not yet have any information in your database about Scott County Missouri. Rev Thomas Malcolm Boardman, who was the pastor of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church (also called Boardman Chapel) in Scott County MO from the decade the turn of the century till the 1920s was my gg grandfather. I would like very much to know if that church was also Primitive Baptist. I suspect it was, and I suspect my gg grandfather was a member of the Friendship Church in Warrick County IN, before he left there to take up a new ministry in MO. I have some photos of the Pleasant Valley Church in Scott County and of Rev. Boardman, my gg grandfather, and I would be happy to share with you if it turns out his church was Primitive Baptist. I believe I may have had an Uncle or two involved in this horrific event in Franklin County, IL. I know that my uncles worked in a 'mine', but not sure if this is the one. Was there a mine close to Pope County that was affilliated with Alcoa Aluminum? I wonder if anyone knows of any Pope County, IL citizens lost (or from surrounding counties)?? If you have knowledge of this, please submit your information.

    1. MORSE y-DNA Testing, Two $30 Gift Certificates For Our Group!
    2. Debbie & Jim McArdle
    3. Hello MORSE / MOSS researchers: As your MORSE / MOSS y-DNA Group Administrators we are delighted to inform you that Family Tree DNA has just sent us a $75 Gift Certificate to be used as follows: Two $30 Gift Certificates to be used only with a NEW PARTICIPANT on a Y-DNA25 or a Y-DNA37 - (one certificate per participant) One $15 Gift Certificate for a NEW mtDNA participant. Kits must be ordered and paid for by December 31st, 2005 and are not valid for test upgrades, add-ons or Y-DNA12. Since we only have 3 Gift Certificates, we will have to honor them in the order requests are received to make it fair for all of our MORSE / MOSS researchers. Please be aware that we will have to assist the winners of the Gift Certificates in obtaining the rebate as there is a special code that needs to be used. Please send your responses to me, Debbie, at jjmcard@mc.net rather than Beverly - just to avoid confusion. For those unfamiliar with y-DNA testing, please visit our MORSE / MOSS website at: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Morse%2D2/ and be sure to scroll down to the chart. There are links that will take you to explanations of the DNA process and how it relates to genealogy. The "y" in "y-DNA" identifies the group of markers that are passed from father to son, father to son, father to son, etc. So, by testing a living male MOSS / MORSE, a person can find other living male MORSEs / MOSSs with matching y-DNA indicating they share a common ancestor. It's like identifying the y-DNA of your ancestor who was buried 250 years ago without digging up his grave! Once a participant finds another matching participant within the group, they compare their research, hopefully enabling them to break down some brick walls in their genealogical research. y-DNA testing is particularly helpful with common surnames like MOSS and MORSE - there are so many it is sometimes difficult to sort them out. Y-DNA does that for us. The number "25" or "37" simply identifies the number of markers in the test. Currently tests are available in 12, 25, or 37 markers, the 37-marker test obviously the most revealing. The $30 Gift Certificate offered by Family Tree DNA is good only for a new participant in the 25 or 37 marker test. The mtDNA test group is for the maternal line, but at this point in time is of more anthropological importance and has no real genealogical value. Next let me say that Beverly and I are not affiliated with Family Tree DNA except that we volunteered, as a MORSE / MOSS researchers, to manage the test group. We are not compensated in any way. We believe in the value and future of y-DNA testing in relation to genealogical research, which is why we have invested our time and effort in this surname group. Sincerely, Debbie WARD McArdle & Beverly White WARD y-DNA Group Administrators

    3. Yes, Ron, I do have that Christopher Reynolds info. It comes from the S.F. Tillman work and is considered "suspect" by many seasoned researchers. Even I, myself, can find errors in it. That's because Tillman collected information from a great many sources and simply printed it as it was provided. It does provide clues for further research, however. I have included what is shown about Ivy's ancestry in my own tree with the caveat that it only seems "reasonable"!!!!
