    3. Hello from Denton, Texas, I have pictures I will send to anyone who may have a family connection or would like to have them. I believe the people were Golconda classmates of my late aunt, Edna Searcy, and probably date from around 1913-1915. (1) a post card photo of Laura Weekly & Alma Lay seated in a buggy; (2) studio portraits of Sylvia Jenkins and Raymond Jenkins; (3) no last names for Gertrude; Frieda; Marie; or Myrtle. Also, portraits of two young men and a young woman with no names. I had thought of sending them to the Library in Golconda, but will try this avenue first. My Pope County families were Blatter, Boos, Butze and Searcy. Grandfather Theo Searcy ran a grocery store in Golconda; the family moved to New Mexico in 1920. 1. PARMELY, Samuel......HELP
    2. Dawn Prock
    3. Parmely is one of my Pope Co., IL family lines. I am having trouble with part of this line and ask other Parmely (Parmley, Parmeley, etc.) reserachers for their help. I have traced my Parmely line as below: Martha M. Parmely b. Dec. 16, 1873 in Pope Co., IL m. George Feezor d. Jan 6, 1921 in Vermilion Co., IL Samuel Parmeley b. Aug. 1851 in IL m. Malinda L. Griffin d. June 30, 1925 in Pope Co., IL Samuel Parmely, Jr. b. Apr. 25, 1826 in IL m. Lucinda Melinda Baker d. May 14, 1884 in Pope Co., IL The "Jr." in Samuel Parmely's (b. 1826) name comes from his gravestone, therefore I assume that his father's name was Samuel Parmely, Sr. This is where I have some problems... In the 1850 Pope Co., IL census there is listed an elderly Samuel Parmley. This Samuel Parmley is 52 yrs. old (born about 1798) and born in Virginia. His wife is listed as Mary Parmley, aged 40, born in Tennessee. I have asssumed that this is the father of my Samuel Parmely, Jr. My problems come, however, when I look over the many biographies on the Parmely line in Pope Co., IL. These biographies make no reference to this Samuel Parmely. There are references the 1st Samuel Parmely (born in VA) to come to Pope Co., IL whose wife is named as Rebecca Hawkins. The main problems is the dates. This Samuel is listed as marrying Rebecca Hawkins in Livingston Co., KY on June 29, 1805. This could not possibly be MY Samuel Parmely because that would means that he married at the age of 7....IMPOSSIBLE. Please help. Dawn dprock@ix.netcom.com

    1. The Good and the Bad
    2. Ginger
    3. There are two things I'd like to make you aware of: 1st the Good: The Pope County ILGenWeb page has received the Excellence in Genealogy award. I want to thank those of you who have contributed to the pages, it wouldn't have happened without you. 2nd the Bad: This a message sent by Dr. Brian Leverich to the webmasters who host pages at rootsweb. Please read and keep in mind when you contribute something to the Pope Co site. Thanks everybody Ginger gingerh@intrnet.net **********(Start of Brian's Post)********** Hi everyone - I'm sorry to have to do this, but I'm starting to lose a day a week or more to this problem and it's gotta stop. Remember, RootsWeb only has three formal policies but the *first* among them is "No copyrighted material (save with permission or as allowed by Fair Use)". Also remember that for the purpose of policy, RootsWeb takes a conservative view of intellectual property rights. We don't have much use for the "facts can't be copyrighted" truism, because almost everyone who uses that expression doesn't understand what it does and doesn't mean. And even when some material can be legally copied, it may still be morally wrong or invite public relations problems to do so. In particular, RootsWeb generally believes that *anything* published in book form within the last 75 years should not be copied and appear on our servers without the permission of the author or the copyright holder. That *specifically* applies to cemetery transcriptions: if you didn't walk the cemetery yourself and you don't have explicit permission from the person who did, that material should NOT be served from RootsWeb. It's fine for folks to disagree with our policies, but if you do disagree please have the courtesy of using other servers to host material that might violate RootsWeb's policies. If you insist on serving that material from RootsWeb, you're cheating *everyone* else by diverting Karen and me into dealing with legal problems when we should be creating accounts and mailing lists for the community. Thanks for your help with this, B. -- Dr. Brian Leverich Co-moderator, soc.genealogy.methods/GENMTD-L RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative http://www.rootsweb.com/ P.O. 1. HENDLEY/CLANAHAN/BOOS/SCHUMACHER Family Needs
    2. I have one Pope County ancestor that I am trying to get more information on -- James Madison HENDLEY who was born in 1844, I believe in Tennessee. He married Frances Luretta CLANAHAN on October 17, 1867 in Pope County. They were my g-grandparents. Their daughter Lula Hendley married my grandfather, Clarence Henry SCHUMACHER (b. 1864), who was the son of Dedrich Schumacher, Jr, and Julia BOOS. This was the second marriage for both Julia and Dedrich. Julia was previously married to William Dyer and Dedrich to Mary Hanna. My grandfather, Clarence, lived in Kankakee County and Jackson County after moving from Pope County as a young man. I grew up in Murphysboro. All of these surnames were well known in Pope County during the mid to late 1880s. Member of these families intermarried with many other PC families. I would appreciate any information anyone can provide on these surnames, especially on James Madison Hendley. Thanks. Jim Doody, Naperville, Illinois doodyj@aol.com

    3. Hi All, I have the Pope County History books, Volumes I & II, and will look up names for anyone. They are not everyname indexed so can only give info on surname used in the articles. So many of my ancestors were in Pope County that I find the Pope web page my favorite place on the Net. I have answered several requests for info from members of the mailing list by personal e-mail so there is more activity than it looks like going on, Ginger. Has anyone heard of Paul H. Worley (unclepaul@worldnet.att.net)? He has a huge database on past residents of Pope County and has helped me out with my surname research. He doesn't have the database on line so would have to answer your requests by snail-mail. Have I missed other people besides Sherry Miller and Cindy Pegg who are doing look-ups? Opal Roberts

    1. HENDLEY/CLANAHAN
    2. Greetings. I am seeking information on the ancestors of James Madison HENDLEY, who married Frances Luretta CLANAHAN in Pope County on October 17, 1867. Frances Luretta was born in 1849 in Illinois (Pope County?) and James Madison was born in 1844. Lula Hendley, daughter of James and Frances born in 1869 in Pope County, was my grandmother. Lura was married to Clarence Henry Schumacher, who was born in Pope County in 1864. Clarence was the son of Dedrich Schumacher, Jr., and Julia BOOS Dyer SCHUMACHER. All of the families lived in the rural area around Golconda, the Schumachers near Stoney Point School. I would like to hear from anyone who might have information on any of these families, especially the HENDLEY line. Thanks. Jim Doody, Naperville, Illinois doodyj@aol.com
