In response to the roll call... Primary lines in Pope and Hardin counties: WILLIAMS, HENSON, WASSON, SHOCKLEY, JOINER, BARBER Secondary lines (related by marriage): well, now that I look through my information I realize there's probably too many to list here! The John Addison Wasson family alone was pretty large and married into many others. There were also alot of Shockleys and Hensons (but surprisingly enough, not so many Williamses) so I probably have connections of some sort to most of the families in that area. The 1830 Census of Pope County, Illinois shows a James WARD living there as the head of a household. Living with him are 1 male under age 5, 1 male age 5 to 9, 1 male age 10 to 14, 1 male age 15 to 19, 1 male age 20 to 29 and 1 male (I presume James) age 50 to 59, and 1 female age 10 to 14, 1 female age 15 to 19 and 1 female (I presume James' spouse) age 40 to 49. Would this WARD family by any chance be related to anyone in your family? Or do you have any info about this family that you could share with me? Would sure appreciate it, if so. Thanks, Carl Ward cwward@anet=stL.com

Response to Linda Killingsworth's request: Linda, My father was born, Isaac S. Barger, June 3, 1904 at Raum, Pope County. He subsequently changed his name to James Ray Barger in 1935. This has caused some confusion in data bases I have seen. Anyway, he was the son of Isaac Franklin S. Barger and Mary Ophelia Walker. Isaac Franklin was the son of Franklin S. Barger and Margaret McLain, and Franklin was the son of Isaac Shufflebarger and his first wife, Elizabeth Burton. Isaac Shufflebarger was one of three brothers who migrated to Pope County from Montgomery, County, VA in the 1820s. I am also descended from Isaac Shufflebarger's brother, Abraham. Abraham was married to Mary Elizabeth Anderson in Montgomery County, VA. Their daughter, Margarett, married John Barnett Whiteside in Pope County. Margarett and John Barnett had a daughter Elizabeth; she married Daniel W. Walker in 1864. Their daughter was Mary Ophelia Walker who married her second cousin, Isaac Franklin S. Barger. My dad resulted. I have heard of the Shufflebarger reunion in Montgomery County and hope to attend some day. I would be happy to exchange information with anyone. In particular, I find myself at a dead end with my great grandfather, Daniel W. Walker, and would appreciate any information on him. Names sought: HUNT, LEWIS, DENIS, NICHOLS, HAMILTON Searching for Thomas A. Hunt, married in Vienna, Johnson Co (23 Sep 1842 and then purchased land in Pope Co.in 1853. Enlisted in Union army in 1861, died 1862. On his enlistment papers he stated that his papers pertaining to enlistment were to be sent to Crimea, which at that time was in Johnson Co. However, I believe the name of that post office is now Grantsburg. I know there has been changes in the boundaries of some of the counties and I am having trouble with that in placing exact locations of cities. The marriage certificate from Vienna, plainly states the name of the bride was Sarah Louisa Denis. When I received the pension records for her, she was listed as spelling her name Lewis. I do not believe that she was literate since I have seen her "X" as signature. I know or at least have been told that the pension records would be more accurate. Has any one had this type of confusion besides me? How can it be resolved? This Couple had five children and we believe they were all born in Pope county but how do I verify this.Names listed in 1860 census in Pope co. were: Uriah, B.abt 1845; Thomas Jefferson, B. 19 Feb 1850; Nancy Emaline, B. Abt 1852; Lemuel Pleasant (my grandfather), B. 8 Sep 1855; Mournin Elizabeth, B. 2 Oct 1858; Henry Marion, B. 21 Apr 1861. Thomas A. Hunt also had a sister, Delily B. Hunt who married William R. Nichols in Johnson Co. and they had a daughter Mary Ann Elizabeth Nichols, b 23 Dec 1848 who married Henry Hughlette Hamilton on 3 Oct 1867 In Johnson Co. I know this is a mess but if anyone would give me a clue, I would be forever appreciative. Ellen
