I am researching the Jenkinns and Elam surnames in Pope County. Greg Simmons
Hi, I don't know if you have the old query page bookmarked, if so there is a new one up and a new way to submit queries. The new way allows for instant viewing by the visitors and doesn't have to wait for me to format them into html and then upload them. I love it. Do you mind going to the new page and submitting your query through that, please. Thanks a bunch. I've been kinda busy and this helps me out a lot. I don't feel so much pressure to get them done in a hurry when the rest of my life calls.*grin* http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilpope/query2.htm If you have a problem accessing it or it won't work for you please let me know right away! I'll put it in manually then. Linda: The best I have been able to figure out, my ggrandfather was the son of Othenial SEARLES who supposedly was born in Tennessee. Does this fall in line anywhere. I have had a hard time with this line due to the many varations in spelling of SEARLES. Unknown MORRIS married Mary Unknown and had a child, Alfred. (Mary latter married Unknown REED) Alfred married Elizabeth HIGGS. Alfred died about 1850. They had at least one son James H. MORRIS in 1824 in Livingston Co KY. I think James had a younger sister Lucy. Alfred and his family ended up in Pope/Massac Co. Anyone interested in this family? 1893 part of Bio Review of James H Morris: James H. Morris, Sr., an honored pioneer settler of Illinois and for three-score years an eye-witness of the rapid growth and upward progress of the State, as long been identified with the best interests of Massac County, and, an energetic and enterprising citizen, has ably aided in local advancement, enjoying the esteem and confidence of a host of old-time friends. Our subject is a native Kentuckian and was born in Livingston County 1824. His paternal grandfather was one of the early settlers of Kentucky and a man of indomitable will and courage, and was a pioneer compatriot of the famous hunter, Daniel Boone. His son Alfred, the father of James H., Sr, was born and reared amid the frontier scenes and thrilling experiences incidental to life upon the borderland of civilization. While a boy he industriously assisted in the labors of the farm and when he attained to his majority removed to Livingston Co, where he married and continued to engage in the cultivation of the soil. In 1833, following the out-going tide of emigration, Father Morris with his family journeyed by teams to Illinois, and located in that part of Johnson County now included in Massac County, buying a tract of land and also entering Government land. He build a log house upon the land he had first purchased about three miles from Metropolis, and resided there a number of years, finally removing to a second homestead about a quarter of a mile distant, and in 1850, respected by all who knew him, passed away in the home of our subject. The wife of Alfred Morris, in maidenhood Miss Elizabeth Higgs, was a native of Kentucky and a lady of ability and culture. A true helpmate and devoted wife and mother, she spent a life of buy usefulness and preceded her husband to the better land, dying in 1843. Our subject was but a lad of nine years when his parents came to Illinois, and well remembers the details of the journey and many incidents of travel. In 1833 the country in which the family located was sparsely settled and most of the land was yet owned by the Government.

My grandfather was W. Scott Randolph and my grandmother was Mattie (Julian) Randolph. Many of the Randolphs lived off the Eddyville blacktop on the gravel road by the Sulphur Springs Church and cemetary. What kind of info are you seeking? I have two books that shows many of the lines of Randolphs. One was by Glenn C Randolph, the other was by Grady Lee Randolph. Information in these books may help you.

It must be something going on. We are having the same thing going on at our net. My sister is having the same problem on AOL. My mail didn't come through for a couple days then three copies of everything. some still hasn't come through. I think it might be something to do with the telephone reconstruction more than our ISP's. Opinion only.
