I apologize for taking so long to get back to you. It has been hectic around here. I still have all 3 kids at home, they are teenagers, need I say more! I am descended from Josiah Silas Jackson b 1853 in TN, he married Pheobe Lauderdale daughter of John Taylor Lauderdale, son of John & Pheobe Reece Lauderdale, I have a lot of info on both of the Lauderdale lines, if you would like to share info. I recently found out a new Lauderdale book has been published. I guess it mentions how William B Lauderdale (the father of Jacob & John) ties in with the line and goes back to the Maitland family in Scotland. Thanks to Dallas Patterson for LOTS of information regarding my request on Rock Creek Cemetery. She sent maps, directions, the other name, seems it is also known as Adams Cemetery. -----Original Message----- From: Patterson, Dallas <nye@ns1.fidalgo.net> To: ILPOPE-L@rootsweb.com <ILPOPE-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, July 09, 1998 11:25 AM Subject: Re: [ILPOPE-L] Rock Creek Cemetery >The Illinois Tombstone Inscription Project >For the benefit of anyone who may not have tried them before, there are Web >page and e-mail links to listings of Illinois cemeteries and tombstone >inscription coordinators at: > >Illinois GenWeb Project >http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilgenweb/ > >The Illinois Tombstone Inscription Project >http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/illinois.html > >The listings for Pope County currently include: > >New Zion Cemetery, Old Zion Cemetery, Hodge Cemetery, and Bethany Cemetery. > >The entries for various counties may provide cemetery names and locations, >actual tombstone inscriptions, and/or the names and addresses (some are e-mail >addresses) of the project coordinators of that county. > >Dallas Patterson >nye@fidalgo.net > >

The local residents call it the Rock Creek Cemetery, but the formal name by which it is known outside the immediate locale is the Adams Cemetery. You can see a Tiger Map from the GNIS database Web page link. Thank you to those who took the time to look and found cemetery or did not find the cemetery. I appreciate all the response. I am pasting a copy of the location of the cemetery sent to me. There may be others looking for it. below is pasted response from two wonderful people. mahud, I have found your cemetary for you, I think. I was told that Rock Creek community is between E'town and Cave-In- Rock. There is a big new house that sets on the right side of that road, up on a hill. On the left side of that road, right in front of that big house is a gravel road. Turn on that gravel road. There is a church in a field there, that you can see from the highway. The cemeatry is just to the right of that church. It is hardin County, not Pope. Hope this helps you I am doing the Randolphs, Gulletts, jackson and Ducans from Pope and Saline Counties, if you come across any of these names in your search Let me know Mary Rivera and here is more input into news about Rock Creek, we would not have known had Jos Musgrave not responded. The Rock Creek community is in Hardin County in the Camp Cadiz area. It was the home of Anna Bixby. I think there is a ghost town of Rock northeast of Dixon Springs State Park in Pope County. Are you sure about the county. Jon Musgrave jonm@midamer.net mahud@rollanet.org http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/3597

Rock Creek is another community located in Hardin County. Searches on the U.S. Geological Survey GNIS database (a gazateer) identify churches and cemeteries named Rock Creek in other areas of Illinois, but not in Pope and Hardin Counties. Use your Web browser to see and print the information, and link from the Web page to the Tiger Maps of the U.S. Census Bureau to see and print maps at different scales. There is a description of Rock (formerly Birdseye) in the Pope County, Illinois History, Vol. 1, but there are no descriptions of such a church or cemetery. Probably, the cemetery you are seeking is in Hardin County nearby the Rock Creek community. About ten years ago, we purchased a small map at the Pope County Courthouse that identified many of the cemeteries of Southern Illinois. It was produced as part of a government/university research project for the region. Someone in the area may be able to help you to use this resource. Our copy is missing in action as a result of our last move, and we're waiting to see which box it's in <g>. Dallas Patterson nye@fidalgo.net

The Pope County website has been updated. There are a couple of small new cemeteries and a Nelson Family Tidbit page. Queries are updated and surnames are going to be in a couple of days. (provided uploading keeps going smooth, it's been a problem for some reason lately) http:www.rootsweb.com/~ilpope Ginger gingerh@intrnet.net

Cindy, The problem could be that you are sending your messages in mime instead of text. I understand that a lot of people can't receive messages sent as mime. Don't know all the Techie stuff, maybe someone on the list can 'splain it better than I can.
