The administrator does not have to be a relative, though often it was. Sometimes the administrator was someone who had a great interest in the estate (such as one whom the deceased owed money to). 3. Jon, I remember seeing a large cemetery out there. I think it is actually on Gape Hollow road before you get to the four-way stop intersection. I didn't remember that being the name of it but it does have a large sign with the name of the cemetery. (I just don't remember the name on the sign!). You are right about the road, it definitely has some sharp curves and hills. Be very careful. 3. Dear Bonnie, There is a James T. Morris b. March 8, 1818 d. Nov. 15, 1878 buried in the Kerley cemetery, Johnson County. I know nothing about his family. My gggrandfather was William Jackson Morris b. May 19,1821 in Pope County and died July 29, 1880 in Grantsburg, Johnson County. He was buried in the Morris/Bush Cemetery near Grantsburg. I am wondering if they could be brothers. Sorry none of our names match, YET. Time frame for our James Morris' coincides. I will keep your letter on file. Good luck with your search and keep in touch. Faye Bowman http://members.accessus.net/~abowman/Faye.htm

The easiest way to get there is go down to Herod and turn left (north) onto Gape Hollow Road where the old store used to be (it burned and there is a pole barn in its place). This takes you up the back side of the mountain. The cemetery is large, mowed and well-marked on the left side of the road. I'm not certain if the cemetery is on that road or on Eagle Creek Road. If you haven't reached the cemetery by the time you hit Eagle Creek Road, turn left onto it. If you keep going on that road you will eventually pass Glen O. Jones Lake at the Saline County Fish and Wildlife Area. Another way to get there is to go to Equality and follow the signs to the lake and keep going past it. Eagle Creek Road is a gravel road. Gape Hollow is a wide asphalt road used by coal trucks, so be careful. They drive fast on those curves. 3. This came across another list. Thought some of you might be interested: Clipping Preservation Dissolve a Milk of Magnesia tablet in a quarter cup <2 ounces> of club soda overnight. Pour into a pan large enough to hold the flattened clipping. Soak the clipping for one hour, then pat dry. Do not move the clipping until completely dry. Estimated life: 200 years." This one makes a larger quantity of the solution Newspaper Preservation One quart club sodaTwo tablespoons Milk of Magnesia Mix in shallow container and let stand 24 hours until clear. Dip newspaper into mixture and allow to soak for one hour. Dry on paper towel. May need one or more books on top to flatten. After some use the mixture will turn yellow but it will still be good. Store in refrigerator in container clearly marked 'DO NOT DRINK'. Allow mixture to warm to room temperature before use. This formula will not restore yellowed newspaper but it will stop further deterioration. IMPORTANT: This formula ONLY works for newspaper. It will ruin documents or photographs! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Southeastern Illinois Resource Books [Pope, Massac, Johnson & Hardin] http://www.angelfire.com/il/leefoss Judy Foreman Lee "To forget one's ancestors is to be a brook without a source, a tree without a root..." *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
