    1. [ILPOPE-L] Pope Co. IL land request (lookup exchange)
    2. SheWho
    3. Hi. I'm not presently subscribed to the list, as I only have one peripheral line in Pope County, but I'm hoping someone would be interested in exchanging lookups. I have about a dozen Pope County land records (book and page numbers known) that I need checked pertaining to the THAXTON (DENNIS / LENTZ) families. I live near Salt Lake City, so I could return the favor by doing lookups in the LDS Family History library here. Please e-mail me at the above address if anyone's interested. Karra Porter

    1. [ILPOPE-L] Roswell Sturdivant or William Caldwell
    2. Greg Simmons
    3. Anyone who descends from these two men? These men were a group of men who were part of a gang that were nortious counterfitters in 1823 who passed fake money through out Pope and Johnson County. I hae several items relating to these men. I have arrest warrents issued for these men and a copy of the fake money they were making as well as an attempt to arrest the group. They were arrested but a slick lawyer got them off. They left town and never got in trouble for their deeds. If anyone descends from these and would like these documents I would be able to send them to you. Greg Simmons

    1. [ILPOPE-L] William Jackson Morris parents
    2. Greg Simmons
    3. I have a Rebbeca Morris who I believe is a sister of William Jackson Morris. I am looking for the parents of William Jackson Morris. Rebbeca Morris was married to a Richard Neely Simmons April 8,1842. Rebbeca was born April 1,1825 According to the Family bible. When R. N. Simmons died March 1,1868 his whole estate went up for sell. All the relatives that were related to them bought as many items so that they could keep most of their possesions. Rebbeca owed 3000 dollars and had to sell her possesions to pay the money. The Following signed a probate document with Rebbeca (Morris) Simmons. Quillen T. Kerley and Wm J. Morris. Quillen's wife Elizabeth Allard was married to a Thomas Simmons before she married Quillen. Thomas Simmons was a brother to Richard Neely Simmons. Wm. J. Morris was I believe a brother to Rebbeca Morris. I have a list of items sold and who bought them and how much they paid for them. The following people bought items the most. 1)Rebbeca Simmons wife 2)W. J. Moris only used one r not two. Brother to Rebbeca 3)W. F. Simmons Rebbeca's son Wilford Ford Simmons 4)Peter Simmons Father of Richard Simmons. 5)David Allard married Roseannah Simmons sister to Richard Simmons Rebbeca's daughter Brilly Ann Simmons married a William S. Morris May 2,1861. This William Morris is either a son or grandson of William Jackson Morris. Would like to hear from other researchers on the Morris lines. Greg Simmons

    2. Sheryl Burns
    3. I am looking for suggestions/ideas of where to look next for Printha's parents. What records are there that might show her mother existed and fill in the gap of information between 1880 and 1900 census? Family tradition has it that Printha's mother died in childbirth in July 1900 and that Printha was taken in by her grandfather and raised with his young children. Here are the documents I have: 1. Printha Johnson married Thomas Early May 1923 in Metropolis, IL.(It was first marriage for both). She listed her residence as New Liberty, IL, place of birth Pope Co., Il and parents as "Wash. JOHNSON and Nancy OWENS" 2. Death cert. dated April 28, 1924 (death resulted from childbirth of twins). Informant was her husband of 11mos, Thomas Early of New Liberty, IL. Her date of birth was listed as July 26, 1900. Her parents were listed as Wash Johnson and what looks to be Martha OWENS. 3. 1920 Census Printha JOHNSON, age 21 and her son Hardin JOHNSON, 1/12 were in household of her grandfather Samuel Thomas OWENS in Jefferson Pct, ED104, Pope Co, IL 4. 1910 Census Soundex shows Printha A. JOHNSTON, age 10 was in household of her grandfather Samuel T. OWENS in Massac Co., IL 5. I've been unable to find any Wash. JOHNSON/JOHNSTON or Nancy OWENS in 1900 census soundex data, or any of marriage records books. Samuel OWENS was in Jackson Pct, Massac Co. with his third wife Emma and children Millie 14, Blitha 9, Effie 4, Lula 3 and Barney 1. 6. I've found three marriages for the grandfather Samuel T. OWENS in Massac Co., Il (Demis STAFFORD in July 1879;Martha T. FINCH in Nov 1880; and Emily HENSON in Nov 1894). In the 1880 Jackson Pct, Massac Co. census, Samuel is in household of his parents as a widower with daughter Lettey (or Lottey) May who was born in May 1900. Sorry this post is so long. I am stumped as to what to where to look next or even what records might exist. Are there any kind of school records, etc? Sheryl Burns

    3. Good Morning, Unfortunately some SPAM has been sliding through and hitting the lists. Please be patient and just use your delete key. Rootsweb has excellent SPAM filters in place and usually catches the largest percentage, unfortunately some does slide through on occasion. Last week was a very heavy week for SPAM but I think only 1 or 2 made it through. I get copies of all SPAM that is intended for the lists I maintain so I can double check to make sure it's not a legitamate post. Anyway, your patience is appreciated, if it's SPAM just use your delete key and NEVER reply to the message, if you reply and ask to be removed it is just another way of harvesting your email addy.
