Would someone check the 1850 census for the Leonard Norman family for me . I have a record of the family cemetery at Herod and I am trying to determine siblings of John Howard Norman. The cemetery is called the Wallace cemetery. Buried in the cemetery are John Howard Norman, his wife Dora Wallace Dora's parents James Wallace and Harriet Ann Nelson and Willliam Ray Norman and Floy May Norman two of John Howard Norman's children. I believe there are sibling of John Howard Norman somewhere. Sarah
Hi Bonnie, I also have ancestors buried at Stone Church and would love to see a picture of the cemetery (to "hold" me until I can go myself!). If you have access to a scanner, perhaps you could scan the photo and send it via e-mail to those of us interested (so far, Iman Kea-Greene and me). I am gathering history of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Rock, Pope County. My main two reasons for working on this history: (1) My husband, Earl ( Pete) Bowmans father, Alvis Bowman and his father, Joshua Mack Bowmans family were supporters of the cemetery and many were members of the church. (2) Our son, David was buried there in 1995. Since all the early church records were burned in the Pope County Historical Society Museums tragic fire in 1987 the only way for us to reconstruct part of the membership rolls is through the older generations memory. Weve got to hurry cause none of us are getting younger! Spread the word among family and friends! Success depends on your help! Some suggested information to be compiled: (You can add more, Im sure!!) (1) Names of pastors with estimated dates. Obituaries or biographies of deceased pastors. (2) Pictures: ( Identify as many people as possible and give dates) (estimate if necessary) a. Church building when the bell was in the belfry, etc. b. Pastors, Sunday School officers and teachers. c. Gatherings: Homecomings, baptisms, community events, etc. d. Transportation (3) Baptisms: a. Who? b. Where? c. Dates. (Approximate) (4) Obituaries or biographies of deceased members. (5) Memories of living members: a. Remember who was attending when you were there. People you know were members. b. Describe Christmas at church; Memorial Day observations, etc. c. Who taught your Sunday School class? d. Who was the Song leader, pastor, etc. (6) How was the Lords Supper observed? (7) Tell about going to WEBQ to broadcast the Baptist Hour in early 1950s. (8) What traditions can you recall? a. Seating ? b. Amen Corner? c. Clothing (aprons, etc.) d. Frequency of meetings I appreciate your help! Please send information to: Faye Bowman R#2 Box 154 Golconda, IL 62938 E-mail: abowman@accessus.net

Vicki: Stone Church Cemetery is just outside Rosiclare, Illinois. I believe it is just north of Rosiclare and just west of Elizabethtown. I have been there, but can't remember what route I took from Metropolis, Illinois to Rosiclare, maybe 146 to 34?? The Stone Church and the cemetery is still there, or at least it was in 1994. My great grandfather, Chapman Monroe BARTON was a preacher at the church at one time, and lived just up the hill from it. I would be interested in knowing who you are researching that may be buried in that cemetery. My great grandmother and great grandfather are buried there. I have pictures of the church, the cemetery and my great grandfather's grave. Hope this helps. Bonnie Barton Skaggs
Hi, Can anyone tell me exactly where Stone Church Cemetery is located, and if there is still a church on the property? I have heard that it's outside of Elizabethtown, IL. and then I was told it's located outside of Golconda, IL. Thanks for your help, Vicki
Can anyone help me with info on the children of William L. Slagal (1853-1919) and Emma Rossiger (1863-?)? Thanks, Opal

Ginger, I'm back home now. I had a very productive trip. I got my car fixed for $12.00! The worst part was having to hospitalize my mother from Louisville. She remained in the hospital for two weeks. I have her home now and groceries for us. We're having a Thanksgiving dinner at my house. I found more information the connects to Pope county while on this trip. I need to re-read and digest same. When things settle down here, I will submit Pope County data for you. I really enjoyed my visit with you and thanks for the info. Don't foget I need Ed Annable's e-mail if you can locate it. Dear Karra, You might want to check out Johnson County (the county due west of Pope County) as I think there were some Lentz families around Cypress Township in Johnson County. Linda
