Bob, I just came across a note as to the naming of Brownfield. "The Silver Horse", by Ray Trovillion page 114; Note: Wool was the first post office were the Trovillions settled, then about 1885, it was changed to Columbus and about 1890, the name of Brownfield was adopted, - named for Lewis Field and Maggie Ruble Brown, who was the popular Post-mistress. [Note: she married John R. Brown-JFL]. There was old Brownfield and when the Ill. Central Railroad came 1 1/2 miles south, it was "new" Brownfield, then just Brownfield. The reason I found the note was because I was checking, "The Silver Horse" for the Lewis family. Couldn't find any. I need some help on my Joseph Lacy & Amy Siddell Lewis family. I'm interested in their son John. My records had always shown that he married Mary "Polly" Slankard, but looking over the records again I feel there could be a mistake. In "Pope Co IL Marriage Books A-E 1813-1877 Vol. 1" by Lee & Foss on page 1 is: Bk A [pg 1] John Lewis & Nancy Smith by James N. FOX, Esq. 27 Aug 1818; on page 3 is: Bk A [pg 9 ~ Lic. #75] John Lewis & Polly Slankard by James E. WILLIS, Esqr. 14 Jan 1822; and on page 11 is: Bk A pg 108 - John Lewis, widower & Mrs. Betsy Mahan, widow by J.H. SMITH, J.P. 06 Oct 1829. Then in "Pope Co IL Probate Records 1836-1845" by Annable pg 14-15. Probate Box 20 & Book B, pgs. 284, 353, 362, 365 & 369-371 and Bk C pgs. 41, 53, 99, 103, 112, 126-127, 140-141 and Bk D pgs. 51 & 105 and Bk E, pgs 76-77, 160, 210-211. Guardian notes from Box 163 & Bk B pg 311. It states 09 Sep 1836 - Charlotte Lewis [can't find a marriage for a John Lewis & Charlotte] & Jacob Slankard appointed admins, articles taken by widow, estate auction, additional items, complaint, claims against estate [Mr. Lacy Lewis, Sir please to send me $10.75 by Col. Gatwood & this be your receipt in full for my services in attending upon your brothers child at your request. L. Dunn.] & guardianship notes; 25 Feb 1837- Joseph L. Lewis was appointed guardian to Thomas C., Joseph, George S., John Y., Elizabeth, Mary Jane, Nancy Caroline, Sarah Ann Susan plus their birthdates. Jason B. Smith & John W. Tanner his securities. Then I found a marriage [PCMV1 by Lee & Foss pg 24 Bk A pg 274] for William Larrison & Mrs. Charlotte Lewis by A.J. STORM, J.P. 06 Dec 1837.] Can anyone help me find proof as to the wife or wives of John Lewis? Another question Ricky...if you don't mind. Why and how is Mary Anns named both Morgan and Dyer. Was she married to a Dyer before Jaco... I thought I found once where she was really a Morgan and somehow had a half brother named Dyer??? Make any sense?? Deane Jaco-Green
Thanks Ricky, think we've talked before bout this. Thought maybe there would be a bit more news about this clan of mine here by now..haven't looked for several months. Really would like to see if anyone has info on Alice Dean Broadway. She married a John Jaco, according to family records...just so many Johns in the Jaco line. She was my Ggrandmother. She had Cressie Jaco. I've been told Alice was the illeg. daughter of Louisa E. Jaco who was a servant in Z. Broadway's home. So that would make my Alice a Jaco too. Keeps me looking and my head spinning. Ggrandma Alice told me of the time she was married to John Jaco and she was pg with Cressie. She told me how the horse John was breaking threw him and killed him, the trama of seeing this causing her to go into labor and have Cressie prematurely. Just such a mystery here about her. I still think she was a Broadway since the dates of Louisa E. Jaco's daughter and the spelling of her name don't match up. Any help out there for more Broadways who migrated to Pope county would sure be appreciated. By the way Ricky, where does James Wesley Jaco fit into the Jaco line? Dates? Whose child was he. Also do you know anything about the brother of John W., William. The two original Jacos who came to America, I understand as stowaways on a boat. Found a Rev. Was record of William getting a pension, $96. Anyway...guess I'd like to know what you know. As I said before, they were a deceptive bunch those Jacos....LOL Deane Jaco-Green

Thanks to anyone who sees > this..Deane Jaco-Green By the way Cheryl, was this Royal the son of Z. > Broadway???Deane, John W. SAYLORS is my ancestor. He was definitely an interesting character - had at least three wives but never divorced the first one. I did quite a bit of research on the JACO family for Conway Twitty (the singer) at one time. His wife at the time was a JACO. Mary Ann DYER JACO was indeed an enigma. As best I could determine, she was probably born in KY about 1805 - 1812, 1st married to John W. JACO, then to John W. SAYLORS. She and SAYLORS were living next door to each other in the 1850 Jackson Co. TN census and her youngest child was James Lafayette whom she had by SAYLORS. However, SAYLORS has a wife named Mary also in this census. Lucinda ABLE who was SAYLORS' wife was in Allen Co. KY by 1857 and I have no trace of her after 1859. The last I have found of Mary Ann Morgan Dyer Jaco Saylors Broadway is the 1880 census. Some of the family stated she died before her son Andrew with whom she was living at the time - she probably died in Union Co. IL. Andrew JACO died about 1883 in Pope Co. IL. This is definitely an interesting family. Rick Allen

Hi, I have reference to a Frances Vaughn in Pope County, Township 12 s, Range 7 E, dated 10-9-1860. The Post Office was Golconda. Francis Vaughn 13 f IL James 9 m IL Ester 6 f IL George C. 5 m IL William H. 2 m KY This is interesting~according to the George C. and William H. and their age, either this family was in Ky. between 1855 and 1858, or either William H. isn't a brother to this family. It's possible that some of your Vaughn's moved back to Ky. after 1880, but not all of them did. A few went over to Hardin County, IL. (Roisclare and Elizabethtown) I am researching the Goins and Hogan families out of Pope and Hardin Counties during this same time period and my interest in this family was a La Verne Vaughn, daughter of Orval and Bertha (Craig) Vaughn. La Verne married into the Goins line in 1941. This was almost 100 years after, but I thought it was worth passing along. Incidentally, if you happen to run across any of my clan in your search, please let me know. Vicki
