Hello Jan, I just saw your very generous to do look ups in Pope County. Personally, I would be more than happy to pay you for your time. I am researching the Alexander Murphy and James Murphy families who came to the area sometime prior to the 1818 census. They came from South Carolina originally, although I suspect they may have stopped off in another state at least briefly. They were on the 1810 census in South Carolina. Then they show up in Illinois in 1818. I believe Alexander may have gotten bounty land for 1812 service. There is a warrant for that name in 1816, but the land was in Henry County. Maybe he sold that parcel and bought something in Pope, or maybe it isn't my Alexander Murphy. I just don't know at this point. Anyway, I think the Alexander who shows on the 1818 census is the patriarch. He had a son named Alexander who would have been about 13 in 1818. James Murphy is another grown son, born in 1796. They all came to Illinois and proceeded to produce numerous children and using the names Alexander and James over and over in both lines. I have looked at quite a bit of data myself, but if you would be willing to give me ANY AND ALL REFERENCES TO THE MURPHY NAME, I would be glad to hire you. You have several books that I have not been able to acquire yet, and some I didn't even know existed. I suspect that all the Murphys in Pope are related closely. So anything at all that you can find may help me sort things out. I believe that Alexander I was married to a Sadie or Sarah Jenkins. He probably died before the 1830 census. I know a little more about the more recent ones, because my grandmother was Corda Murphy. She was born in Glendale, Pope County. Her parents were Alexander Murphy and Georgeanne Murphy, who were 2nd cousins. He descended from Alexander II, and she descended from James, his older brother. Anyway, please let me know what you are willing to do. Thanks a lot. My third great grandmother, the wife of Thomas Chappell, died in Pope County, IL about 1845. Three of their children married into the Hazel family of the same county. This couple was the parents of Jesse Mordeciah Chappell, who later migrated to Sullivan CO, MO. I have been unable to find anything to even suggest her given name let alone her family name. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thomas married 2nd Sarah R. Young and they had at least one child, a daughter, Veronica. Thanks in advance, Virgle L. Chappell, [email protected]

Still searching for anyone who might be able to give or receive information on "BUCKNER'S", from the pope county illinois area during the 1810"s though 1840's. The names that I am researching are JAMES, LEONARD (DIED 1834 IN POPE CO.), AND DAVID(MOVED TO WILLIAMSON COUNTY BEFORE 1840), stonefort illinois, near Marion Il. Leonard was married to "MARY DIARMAN", DAVID WAS MARRIED TO "NANCY NEWTON", James was married to ''SARAH RIDDLE". Another James D. Buckner was the son? of David Buckner from williamson county illinois, still trying to connect the father son connection. Thanks ahead of time for any help out there.
I had a link to a site on how to care for tombstones. I got it from this message board. Does anyone have it? Murvin
Is this what you were looking for??? from the Tombstones mailing list to share. Cleaning stones without damage has been a problem for genealogists for a long time. The link below does not tell how much this costs or where it can be purchased. Below is product information on Enviro Klean® BioWash Enviro Klean® BioWash removes light to moderate biological soiling - mold, mildew, lichens, algae and more - from limestone, marble and other building surfaces without risk of over-cleaning, etching or bleaching. Compared to more aggressive cleaners, near-neutral BioWash is safer to use, easier to rinse and requires no neutralization. BioWash fills a void where formulations that attack grease, atmospheric soiling AND biological soiling are more potent than the job may warrant. Bleach and other chlorine-based cleaners typically used to remove mold and mildew leave salt residues that damage masonry surfaces and nearby landscaping. BioWash cleans without depositing harmful residues. When the staining is simple mold and mildew - and you'd be surprised how often that is the case -- BioWash is the safest, gentlest cleaning alternative. One gallon of Enviro Klean® BioWash concentrate makes more than 30 gallons of ready-to-use cleaner. It's also available in ready-to-use quart spray bottles as Monument BioWash. One container of Monument BioWash is enough to restore the average marble or limestone grave marker covered with mold and mildew. http://www.prosoco.com/Product.asp?ID=219">here</A for more information. ==== TOMBSTONES Mailing List ==== Old genealogists never die, they just haunt cemeteries To contact the Listowner, Kathie Harrison - write to: [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Murvin & Pat Bonham" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, June 22, 2002 5:56 PM Subject: [ILPOPE-L] Tombstone Care > I had a link to a site on how to care for tombstones. I saw this on another site and thought it was important enough to share. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS ? Missouri State Archives and New WWI Service Cards The State of Missouri's State Archives has been a leader since 1965 when it was created and was officially designated repository for all state records of permanent value. It's mission is "Its mission is to identify, collect, preserve, and make available to elected officials, state government, historians, students, genealogists, and the general public, the permanent and historically valuable records of Missouri's state and local governments. Among its holdings are documents relating to French and Spanish colonial rule, the New Madrid Earthquakes, Supreme Court case files, the Civil War, Frank and Jesse James, and Harry S. Truman. A new database of WWI Service Cards has been placed online and is easily searchable. These long-overlooked records may be the very door opener you need, but the entire site is well worth your visit. Hi Anita, I noticed that you had the surname of " Raiser " mentioned in your post. Since starting my research on my ancestors, the Ditterline's, I've been trying to figure out what My G-Grandma's maiden name was. It's listed as " Raisue " on the marraige record, but that has to be mis-spelled, as that name doesn't exist !!!!!! If you have any information on a Bonisy Raisue in your records, could you please contact me ? Thank you for your time ! Nova Ferrington [email protected]
I was wondering if anyone had access to death or divorce rcords? I found someone who has passed away that I would like some info for them: Albert Rossiger Novemeber 19, 1934 he was 60 year old. He was burried in Ashbury Cem. I also found that my Great 4 times Grandfather back Charles Rossiger(Raiser) married Wihelmina Rapsilber just a few days after she divorced Charles Slanke(Stanke). Any help would be wonderful. Thanks Anita
Hi, My paternal grandmother is a Wetherington, but have hit a brick wall trying to find info on her. I know that she was born in Rosebud, died in 1944 (Cincinatti, Ohio) and is buried at Antioch Cemetery in Pope County. There are several Wetherington family members buried at the same cemetery, but don't know what the relationship is. I have seen several references to a list or book that has all of the families buried at Antioch.....do you know where I might get this info? >From: [email protected] >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [ILPOPE-L] OWENS,CALDWELL,WETHERINGTON,etal >Date: Sun, 16 Jun 2002 05:47:20 EDT > >I would like to contact anyone who is researching any of the following >names >around Pope and Massac Co's in the 1800's and early 1900's: >OWENS,WETHERINGTON,CALDWELL,GOLDEN,CHASTAIN,AL(L)COCK,and through marriages >of siblings: JOHNSON,DEAN, NEFTZGER,SMITH ( in regard to Arjane SMITH >married to a Stephen WETHERINGTON); >Thanks, >Regina > _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

Greetings, Neva! Jacob Caleb Slankard, b 11/25/1794 in Lincoln County, North Carolina, is my gggggrandfather. He had at least three sons, one of which was David (my ggggrandfather) and another George W (b abt 1831 in Illinois), who married at least twice. His first wife was Martha Ann Huggins (b abt 1829 in Arkansas). Their children were John H (b about 1847), Jacob F (b about 1849), Elisabeth (b about 1853), Thomas N (b about 1854), Melissa (b about 1856), William F (b about 1856 - twins?), Juliet (b abt 1859), and Georgiana (b abt 1862). I think this Elisabeth is your Elizebeth, who married James W Abbott on January 30, 1873 in Pope County. Jacob's father was George, who appears to be the progenitor of most if not all of the Slankards in Pope County, and George's father was Frantz Henrich Schlenker, who came to Philadelphia on September 19, 1753, from Hamburg, Germany. I tried to send this earlier but noticed it was a jumbled mess. Here it is again from a listing I saw on the Randolph rootsweb. site for those of you who may be interested. Jan Dear All: Some volunteers from the society of the Daughters of the American Revolution ( DAR) have established a wonderful new program for users of Rootsweb. These volunteers will do lookups in their database and records if you think one of your ancestors served in some capacity during the American Revolution. These volunteers have more databases that are available to them than the ones commonly used by the search engines. You can then also find out if others have become DAR members by using that Ancestor. This may show you other descendants and also provide some documentation that you may be able to use in your application! The process is fairly simple : Go to the DAR message board: There are two ways to do that: > www.rootsweb.com > message boards > topics > organizations and societies > DAR Or if you want the easy way :-) http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.organizations.dar Address your message as follows: subject : DAR Lookup > surname> location > dates In the body of the message put the information regarding the person, Be sure to fill out the surnames box at the bottom since the new search engine will be keying on that item. Leave the email response box checked and you will be notified when the DAR volunteers respond . Give them a week or so to get to your request. We really appreciate their efforts. This info can be key for: a: joining these prestigious organizations ( DAR & SAR) b: sending a request for the copies of the files that were submitted and the information they have available. Many thanks to: Glenda Thompson DAR VIS Volunteer Vice Chrm. Patriot Lookup for organizing this effort and all the many volunteers that are donating their time and effort to us instead of pursuing their own ancestors, Best Regards John A Hansen DAR board admin. BTW: Please forward this message to other lists and boards that each of you are involved in. A word of thanks to each volunteer that does this work and especially the one that responds to your post would probably be highly appreciated.
I would like to contact anyone who is researching any of the following names around Pope and Massac Co's in the 1800's and early 1900's: OWENS,WETHERINGTON,CALDWELL,GOLDEN,CHASTAIN,AL(L)COCK,and through marriages of siblings: JOHNSON,DEAN, NEFTZGER,SMITH ( in regard to Arjane SMITH married to a Stephen WETHERINGTON); Thanks, Regina
I'll send this to her. I'm sure she would like to talk to you. Sharon
I believe the Mollie you are talking about to be the sister of my grandfather, Charles Maurice Evitts b. 13 May 1888 Pope Co. - d. 1 Jan 1981, Pankeyville, Saline Co., Il. I know that Mollie m. James A. Wells 11 Oct 1894 Pope Co. but I do not have any children, if any. I remember visiting Mollie down in Pope Co. when I was a child, but believe she was a widow at the time. Their father was Joseph Evitts b. 16 Jul 1863 Pope Co. and mother was Conzada "Zada" Maxwell b. ca. 1857 Al, d. 1893, Glendale Pope Co., Il. Their other children were: Lewis, Lillie, Della, Mary India, Robert. After Zada died Joseph m. Phoebe Boulden 16 May 1897 Pope Co., and had one daughter, Dolly. Joseph's parents were William W.
