Jan...I don't see a connection at this time. Maybe someone else on our list knows more.... Rev. MARCUS RANDOLPH, b. 1812 TN, d. 1864; marr: Lucinda A. PAISLEY 1835 at Shawneetown, IL. They had migrated to Pope County in 1844 from Gallatin County, IL. His parents had migrated from VA to TN after the Rev. War. Their 4 children: 1. Lt. Robert P. RANDOLPH b 1836, d. 1862 (Civil War-typhoid fever) was marr: Cordelia DICKERSON. 2. Sgt. John L. RANDOLPH b 1840, was marr: Susan Jane WOOD. 3. Mary RANDOLPH b. 1842, was marr: Capt. John T. HODGE. 4. William D. RANDOLPH b. 1846, d. 1867 age 21 on 11th day of his marriage to Harriet B. TROVILLION. NATHANIEL EASTERLY RANDOLPH born in middle TN to parents: John William RANDOLPH and Mary Ann REAVIS-REED (m:1829TN)...family migrated permanently to Pope County, IL in 1846. Nathaniel marr: (1)Mary SHRUM (not Mary REED as the Golconda record states) and Mary died 1863...6 children; (2) Martha TAYLOR...11 children... IS IT POSSIBLE THAT NATHANIEL B. 1829 TN and MARCUS B. 1812 TN COULD BE RELATED? Nathaniel's parents were married in Marry County, TN and at times lived in Henry and Warren Counties, TN. Has anyone been able to check Census, Land & Marriage Records there?? Jan Patton wrote: > CArol, I also have Randolph ancestors from Pope Co. Paula - I tried to contact someone about the cemetery and really didn't get much help. The funeral director was Mr. Fred Rottman. I believe the father owned the funeral business before his son took over. The odd fellows lodge in Springfield does not have any records of the cemetery when I spoke to them. They just referred me to Mr. Rottman, telling me he had a listing, but all he has is a plot plan with the original owners names of the plots, not who all was buried in them. I would like to speak to someone about who upkeeps the cemetery. cheri

Hi Carol - I'm looking for a William T. (Buck) Johnson born 6 Oct 1853, died 23 Feb 1930. His wife, Missouri Anna (Anna) Johnson born, 16 Jan 1852, died 2 Nov. 1921. I believe they were buried in their son-in-laws family plot by the name of John W. Harrison. I visited the cemetery last year, and found a plot for Harrison, but it looked freshly dug and I couldn't figure out why as their wasn't a new grave. There might not have been markers put up for the Johnsons, so I was hoping to find original records also. This has been a huge mystery to me, and just didn't know if purchasing books would answer the questions! I live in MA so another trip to Golconda is out of the question for now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheri

Hi Carol, Thank you so much for responding! I corresponded with a descendant of Hiram Wood some time ago, and she assured me that my Jane Wood was not in her family. What little I have been able to trace is that there were, I think, three Wood siblings: Henry M. Wood who married Margaret O'Melveny in Pope Co., in 1822 Jane Wood who married John Jackson and Amos Chipps Alfred Wood who, I believe, married Margaret Jackson I am certain of the relationship between Henry and Jane because of a family document. Alfred is not so certain, except that Henry's son was named Alfred and the name was carried on in the family. Not much is known about any of them, unfortunately. I do appreciate your listings of the IOOF cemetery -- that is very helpful. Thank you, Suzanne
Hi :o) I think I have a listing up to about 1992...10 years ago. The book is: "Pope County, Illinois Cemeteries, Volume IV" compiled by E.M.Woodworth and R.L.Bear April, 1992.... actually it was enumerated on October 18, 1991. There may be books still available for sale, but I would be willing to do look ups for no more than 2 people since I don't want to cheat the compilers out of a sale. If you can NOT find the book, then I would do as much as I can to help out. Try the websites below...they may give you a lead as to where to find it: Lee and Foss, Southeastern Illinois Genealogy Publishers Faye's New Homepage Carol R. Hi, do you have a listing of who is buried in the IOOF cemetery in Golconda? Has it ever been published? I've spoken to the funeral director who had a plot plan, but he didn't have a full listing. Any help out there?

hi again......also, located a John R. JACKSON buried at the IOOF Cemetery....but there are NO DATES. He is bured near William JACKSON 1856-1948 and Mary J. 1861-1918. Carol R.
Hello Suzanne, The only notes I have on Amos CHIPPS is that he was a Sheriff for Pope County. Wonder, though, if your Jane WOOD could be Susan Jane WOOD? Susan Jane was the daughter of Hiram and Martha Jane (CAVITT) WOOD. She married Sgt. John F. RANDOLPH (b. 1840) and he is the son of Marcus and Lucinda RANDOLPH. I have searched my resources and this is the only "Jane" I can find under WOOD (or JACKSON). Could not find anything on the CHIPPS family...perhaps Golconda Library or Pope County Historical Society would have information. I am thinking that somehow your Jane WOOD is related to the Hiram WOOD ancestor in Pope County (above). I do have a little info on John L. JACKSON, marr to Mary Elvina BAKER (b. 1844)and marr. in 1861. Happy hunting!
