Rosebud has not been anything more than a church and some homes in quite a while. I do remember when there was a store there and a post office. My mother and father were both born near Rosebud. Dad moved shortly after he was born to Metropolis. Mother lived there till she married Dad. But mother lived nearer to the Massac County line and her family did most of their shopping in Metropolis. Went to church at St Stephens Lutheran Church (still there in Midway, Massac Co. IL). The best way to get to Rosebud is to come towards Metropolis on Route 145 and turn right onto Rosebud Road. It will take you to Rosebud (eventually) there are several turns before you get there, but I think it is the best way to find Rosebud. You could surely use the Map Quest site on the internet to trace the Rosebud Road from Route 145 in Massac County to Rosebud in Pope County. I hope? My mother was an Obermark, my dad is May and my grandpa May married Minnie King from Temple Hill, Pope Co. Laura, Norma has given you excellent directions to Rosebud. You might want to check out Rosebud history on my homepage. Click Southern Illinois. Norma Jean - I have Rosebud connections. My families of German decent RIXIE(RIXER) and WAECHTER lived in the Rosebud area and are buried at St Stephens Lutheran Church cemetery. If I'm not mistaken this church used to be known as Massac County German Church. Is that right? Has anyone had any success in searching old records of this church? Are they available/accessible? Yes, I got the WIN32/KLEX worm yesterday afternoon and had to go get new antiviral software today because it wiped out the PC-illian that was on the computer. It is a nasty worm and I don't wish it on anyone. I have deleted my address book and over 500 returned e-mail failure notice so far. Sorry but not my fault. ----- Original Message ----- From: "o'neal" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, August 16, 2002 8:19 PM Subject: Re: [ILPOPE-L] Guardianship papers > Barbara, > > I have gotten three notices that you tried to send an e-mail but there was a > virus in it. My father and Aunt were born in Rosebud. Does Rosebud still exist? How far is it from Golconda? Are there still any buildings or businesses in Rosebud or is it just a small area with no businesses? I was out in Massac Co. and Pope Co. about 3 years ago, but only for a day and I never found Rosebud. (Should've asked someone, I know). Thanks, Laura
There is a church and some homes. It is probably ten miles from Golconda. Is anyone researching or familiar with the Rev. John CRAWFORD (born abt 1761) who married Agnes GLASS (daughter of Francis GLASS). They arrived near Golconda in 1808. He was the Pastor of 1st Presbyterian Church of Golconda. Crawford, Glass, and Joseph Everett Pryor (whose daughter wrote a history of John CRAWFORD) also had trouble with the Flatheads and river pirates and these three were close. Other surname of Crawford family is NEESEMAN. Thanks for any contact or information. Barb Diehl [email protected] P.O. Box 510092 St. Louis MO 63151-0092
Does anyone know if Hurricane Island had another name? Where is it in relation to PRYOR Island or RONDEAU Island? Thanks Barb

NAME CHURCH Association Birth/Death JOINED Rondeau, Ann Arkinstall Big Bay Creek, Pope County Muddy River 1780-1865 Rondeau, Ann Arkinstall Big Creek, Elizabethtown Muddy River 1780-1865 1828 Sep Rondeau, Ann Arkinstall Grand Pier, Raum Muddy River 1780-1865 1830 Nov Rondeau, Elder William Grand Pier, Raum Muddy River 1779-1852 1830 Nov Rondeau, Elder William Big Bay Creek, Pope County Muddy River 1779-1852 Rondeau, Elder William Big Creek, Elizabethtown Muddy River 1779-1852 Big Bay Creek Church (Pope County) was first organized as an arm of Big Creek Church (see Hardin County) in July 1824, for the convenience of members living near the Bay, viz., Jacob Shelby, Esther Shelby, Charles Shelby, Joshua Teague, and Hannah Potter. A request to organize them into a new church was granted in December 1824. Big Bay Creek Church united with the Muddy River Association in September 1825, her messengers being Elders William Rondeau and Thomas Lee, and Bro. Isham Clay, who reported 22 members. The church continued to represent in the Muddy River Association until 1837 (the time of the trouble over the modern mission system). Lusk Creek Church (Pope County) was one of the churches which organized the Muddy River Association, in October 1820, her messenger being Charles Johnson, who reported 11 members in fellowship. In 1821 the church reported 9 members. The records of Grand Pier church show that William Rondeau joined by letter from the Regular Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. Since he was at Big Bay Creek Church in Sep 1825, it is obvious that he must have gone down to New Orleans between that date and 1830. He was dismissed from Big Creek church by letter in February 1825, in connection with a petition from Big Bay Church for Elder Rondeau to serve them as pastor which was granted. Elder William Rondeau joined Big Creek church prior to January 1823, but the date is not yet known (the church was organized in 1806). It is now known that he was ordained at Big Creek church in July 1824 by Elders Wilson Henderson and Stephen Stilley. Elder Abel Teague was also invited to take part in the ordination but apparently was not able to attend (I would like to know where he came from). In my reading I have come across the remark that Lusk Ferry was the name of Golconda in the early days. Does anyone on the list know about the LUSK and ALCORN families? I saw a history of Lusk's Ferry and Sarah LUSK and it mentioned her grandson was James LUSK ALCORN. It was written about 1984 by Elsie Clanahan. I'm interested in James B. ALCORN, who owned a steamboat in the 1830s with my Joseph Everett PRYOR and William RONDEAU and they were involved in the Regulator-Flathead War. Thanks much Barb Diehl [email protected] P.O. Since Guardianship papers are considered part of the probate records I would assume they would be found wherever the probate records are located. Cindy L. I have all his enlistment records with date of death and everything EXCEPT no place of burial. I know he died in Fayetteville, Tenn on 19 May 1862.
