Have you checked the Naturalization book by Darrel Dexter. It contains Naturalizaation records from Alexander, Hardin, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski and Union Counties. Might find your surnames there. There is listed a Andrew Gable, Pope County, Circuit Court Book E pages 295, 321 & 519. Hope this helps. Doug...please send me your info on WILLIAMS, Elijah and Rutha. I need to compare notes, as there are 3 Elijah WILLIAMS in the Pope County vicinity. Also, I have MUCH info on Werner(s), and would be happy to send you what I have... Please contact me off the list to make arrangements on getting it to you. I show Carrie Anne as the daughter of Henry W. (Woerner) WERNER and Veronika Ann (Gueple) GABLE. She is one of 8 children, but I have no birth date on her except after 1885. Looking forward to hearing from you, Carol Doug Barnes wrote: > Cousin Carol, Thanks for the information. I descend from Carrie Anna Werner. Can anyone tell me the names of the children of David and Sarah Trammel Harper and who they married. I have only two - Eva who m. Andy Gable 9 Oct 1909 Pope Co., Il. and a brother Finlay/Finley. Jan
Pope Co. Cousins, I have transcribed the 1850 Pope census for the GenWeb Census Project and also plan to donate it to the Pope Co site. Before I do, I would like to include in the notes field the maiden names of the women in the census and when the couple were married. Will get what I can off the IL Marriages database but thought my fellow researchers would also be a great source for this information. Any help will be appreciated. Opal Roberts, Mercer WI
I am hoping that some one can help me in finding an old friend of my father's. My father and Dean Costillo were both from Hamletsburg, Pope County. They were both about the same age. I would think that this Dean Costillo was probably born about 1930 give or take. If any one knows anything about Dean Costillo, please email me. Thanks for any help. Brenda
Hello Carol Sue and Doug, this is the family I have been looking for. My daughter is the gr grandaughter of Andy and Eva Harper Gable through their daughter Laverne who married Hal Harlow, and their son Orval Dean Harlow. Her name is Crystal Lynn Harlow. It looks like Conrad and his son were naturalized according to the census then, doesn't it? I think you might be right that he and Veronika were brother and sister since they immigrated at the same time. I wonder if any others came to America as well. Have you traced the family back farther in Germany? You mentioned Pennsylvania; did they stay there for a while? Do you know what ship they came over on? There were some earlier Gables in Pope Co. according to the marriage record: Andrew m. Elizabeth Carvell 11 April 1858 Andrew m. Anna Maria Gable 6 Feb 1862 Frederick m. Mary Maler 26 June 1863 I wonder if they were from the same family - perhaps earlier immigrants to Pope Co. How in the world did they find it? Thanks for posting this. If they filed their Naturalization or Citizen papers in Pope County, the courthouse should have the records. Cindy L. Jan, Do you have a connection to Veronika Gable (Goepel). She was my gr grandmother. Thanks for the help. Hello cousin Doug....Veronika (GOEPLE) GABLE was also my great-grandmother! Her parents were: John (GABLE/GOEBEL/GOEPEL) GUEPLE and Catherine HEITRICH. Veronika was b. July 1865 at Herda, SW Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany -emigrated 1881 from Wurttemburg. She married Henry W. (Woerner) WERNER June 05, 1884, Pope Co, IL - Reg A-1, pg 78, #0220, by George Blatter, M.G. at Andy GOEPEL residence. Witt: George Klink/ Anna Walter. They had five children, and I descend from grandfather: Oscar C. WERNER. I do not find any Veronika/Veronica listed in the 1880 Pope Co, IL Census with a surname beginning with "C", "G", or "K". It is possible that she met Mr. Werner in PA, where so many of the WERNER family member emigrated to from the old country, before settling in Pope County, IL. In the 1900 Pope Co, IL Census, listed in Eddyville Prct, enumerated by A.B.King, hshold #62/64 is C. (Conrad) GOEPEL, b. 10/1853, 46 years old, GERMANY, marr. 25 years and Caroline, (7 children/ 5 living) b. 01/1851, 49 years old, GERMANY, marr. 25 years, with 5 children: Fritz b. 03/1878, 22 years old GERMANY, and other children born in IL: Mollie 1883, Andy 1885, Dora 1890, Uda 1893. (I suspect that Veronika is a younger sister of Conrad.) Their year of immigration is the same (1881). On the Census this GOEPEL couple and oldest son are in the USA for 19 years. Under the Naturalization column was "Nat."....probably meaning "Naturalized". In the 1900 Pope Co, IL Census, listed for Golconda Prct, hshold #280/280 is Henry WERNER b. 02/1860, 40 years old, PA, parents b. in GERMANY, marr. 16 years, with wife: Veronica (7 children/4 living) b. 07/1865, 34 years old, GERMANY, married 16 years, and 4 children: Mary A. 04/1885; Oscar 03/1892; William 01/1895; Mabel 10/1889....all born in Illinois. (Veronica's year of emigration is also 1881, Years in the USA - 19...and no information given under Naturalization column. Veronica Ann's father in law, was Edward WERNER, a Lutheran Minister. The following GABLE(s) are listed in the Family History book: Carolyn Sue, Dorothy Louise, Esther, Eva (Harper), Lavern, Lillian B. (Terry), Mary, Merle, Russell, Veronica, and Vernoica Ann. Veronica and Veronica Ann are the same person. Carol NW California ----------- Doug Barnes wrote: > Jan, > Do you have a connection to Veronika Gable (Goepel). She was my gr grandmother.
