    3. There appears to be a great deal of confusion and a lot of people have a lot of different information. I think he originally came from York, England to southern New York in the 1700s and moved on over to Ohio and then to southern Illinois, specifically, Golconda. I think that he had three sons with him. John Austin, Joshua Bailey Austin, William Harrison Austin and Thomas Jefferson Austin. I have a good bit of data on W.H. as I am descended from him. I believe all of my W.H. data is correct. There is a great deal of confusion about T.J as W.H also had a son named T.J. and a grandson named T.J. I believe ol' Sam's wife may have been named Charity and some say her last name was Bailey, but who knows. A lot of folks say there are many more children of Sam, but I just don't think so. Some also say that two of his sons served in the Black Hawk Indian war, but I can find nothing to support that. I think that W.H. was born in Ohio, but can't find a darn thing there about it. There is another group online that has a huge amount of data on J.B., and I have most of that. Who are you looking for? Frank Butler, son of Thomas Butler, son of Jessie Austin, daughter of Thomas Jefferson Austin, Jr., son of Thomas Jefferson Austin, son of William Harrison Austin, son of Samuel Austin. ----- Original Message ----- From: "CarolSue Robinson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 07, 2002 6:38 PM Subject: Re: [ILPOPE-L] Austin's and Sistler's of Pope Co., IL > Frank? 2. Well since, for the third day in a row AOL is so over loaded nothing will open but email, I guess its time to write some. Surnames: Lauderdale, Grisham, Moyers, Chambliss Related names: Austin, Sistler, Walters, Robinson, Whiteside, Shufflebarger (any spelling). Also have Barnhill, Glass, Brush, Hannah, and just about any other name in Pope county. The census books have been reprinted and are available from the Southern Illinois Genealogy Society. I can't find what I did with the URL and can't get into Google (or anything else for that matter) to get it for you. A good place to look for current obituaries for southern Illinois is www.semissourian.com For all online newspapers try www.onlinenewspapers.com Susan

Notes DRUCILLA KING BUTLER The following extract is taken from the Middletown Chips, a paper published at Middletown, Missouri. She was born in the State of Virginia, August 1, 1809. At the age of twelve years she moved with her parents to the State of Illinois, where in 1827, she was married to Mr. Joseph Butler. She was the mother of fifteen children, three of whom were kissed away by the Spirit of God in infancy, the remaining twelve lived to be grown and married. There are five out of nine boys and four out of six girls still living. Mother Butler comes of a very patriotic line. Her great grandfather on her father's side, served in the Revolutionary War and helped free his country. Her grandfather, when we became embroiled with England again, stood by our flag and fought its battles, serving in the War of 1812. Her father and her husband served in the Black Hawk War, and three of her sons fought in our late unpleasantness wearing the Blue from 61 to 65. Mother Butler was 85 years, 6 months, and six days old when she died. 1. Re: [ILPOPE-L] Austin's and Sistler's of Pope Co., IL
    2. Frank: Yes, you are right, and hopefully someone will be able to locate him. We have him listed as born abt 1780 and married to a Charity Bailey. We are assuming her maiden name was Bailey as two of her sons carry Bailey as a middle name. The line you list is correct, but my husband is from the line of Samuel Austin, Joshua Bailey Austin, Thomas Philip Austin Shadrach Austin and Thomas Edison Austin, Sr. Joshua Bailey Austin and William Harrison Austin were brothers. I have Jessie Austin listed as: Orlando Samuel Butler married Mary E. Allen 1862 had son Frank Allen Butler 1884 who married Jessie Austin 1908. Frank and Jessie Butler had 10 children listed: Mary E. 1909 - 1911 Thomas O. 1911 - 1934 Martha C. 1913 - 1984 Iva W. 1915 - 1980 Roberta A. 1916 - 1965 Alma V. 1919 - 1992 twin Austin 1919 - 1992 twin Gladys E. 1921 - 1997 Dorothy J. 1925 - William E. 1934 - 1987 Jessie Austin was also married to a Grover Baker abt 1950 no children listed I welcome all corrections and add ons.
