Judy, this helps a lot. I thought he might be the s/o of Marcus and Lucinda but wasn't sure. Do you know in what county is Lebanon, Tn.? I've been trying for quite some time now to connect Marcus Randolph to John W. Randolph. but can find no connection. Marcus came to Gallatin Co.(later Pope Co.) much earlier than did John W. and family. Do you know of any connection of the two families? Jan, I hope this helps. Happy New Year to All. Judy F. Lee 1. Harriett B.7 TROVILLION (Thomas Carr6, Edward5, James4 TRAVELLION, Thomas3 TRAVILLION, John2 TREVILLIAN, John1)1 was born 20 February 1848 in TN, and died 8 January 1929 to Thomas Carr & Margaret "Peggy" Sawyer Carr TROVILLION. She married (1) William D. RANDOLPH 13 October 1867 in Pope Co IL by John WERTZ, J.P.2, son of Rev. Marcus RANDOLPH and Lucinda A. PAISLEY. He was born 08 January 1846 in IL, and died 02 November 1867. She married (2) John O. BAKER3 10 July 1870 in Pope Co IL by Wm. REAMS, M.G.4, son of John BAKER and Louisa HOWARD. He was born 1849 in IN, and died 1895. Notes for Harriett B. TROVILLION: HARRIET TROVILLION BAKER was born at Lebanon, Tenn., Feb. 20, 1848, and entered into eternal rest at her home in Golconda, Jan. 8, 1929, aged 80 years, 10 months and 18 days. She came to Illinois with her parents when they came as pioneers in 1854. The family was interested in education and the father assisted in organizing school districts and building houses. Deceased, with six of her sisters, were later teachers in the schools their father helped establish. In 1870 she was married to JOHN O. BAKER and lived in the Hodgeville community until he passed away thirty-three years ago. She was a member of the Baptist church at Brownfield and later Stony Point. After the church disbanded she took an active part in church work in the neighborhoods where she lived until her health failed and for the past several years she had been a member of the Home Study class of the Presbyterian Sunday school of Golconda, enjoying the study of lessons and visits of the ministers and members of the church. She was the mother of a large family and devoted her whole life to educating and training her children, always ambitious for them to have opportunities for development and advancement. Two children, BINA and LESTER, proceeded her to the Great Beyond and six daughters and two sons survive her. They are: MRS. JOHN PHELPS of Golconda; MRS. JESSIE BAKER of Azusa, Calif.; MRS. S.E. BAKER of Paducah, Ky. All the children were present except Mrs. Jessie Baker of Azusa, California. The departed was fond of music, flowers, birds and poetry. She often surprised her children by quoting entire poems learned in her childhood and telling stories she had read years ago.
I have a probate file for Wm. D. *David)Randolph who died in Pope Co. 27 Oct 1866. He married Harriet B. Trovillion in Pope Co. on 13 Oct 1867. The probate doesn't list any children. Does anyone know who this David Randolph or Harriet Trovillion's parents or sibs may have been? The Administrators were Harriet, Wm. Compton, and Wm. J. Gregory. The appraisers were James Sheridan, John Bennett, and George Clore. The sale showed the following: 1 standing field of wheat purchased by John Randolph for $5.60(is he related?) 1 grain bundle? purchased by Sheron Watson for $1.65 1 lot of corn 25 bushel purchased by H. H. Norill for $.66 2 lots of corn 25 bushel purchased by Wm. Whitt for $ .67 2 lots of corn 25 bushel purchased by Wm. Comton for $.67 4 lots of corn 25 bushel purchased by Sheron Watson for $.67 5 lots of corn 25 bushel purchased by B. B. Morell for $.60 6 lots more or less purchased by Sheron Watson for $.63 It sure looks as if the corn got less expensive as time went on. Any help appreciated. Mary Deliah was named after her grandmother, Deliah. We don't know her last name. We have Mary Deliah married to the Jones..............................same date as you have. I have C. for Martha's middle name. I notice you have a 1865 marriage date................ John and Fanny had a daughter named Martha.................born about 1844. Could it be her? Sharon

If this McKee lived close to Pope Co., it makes sense to me that McKee School could have been named for one of them. There was a third McKee brother, John, who married Fanny Enloe in Johnson Co. date: 1837....They had several daughters and one son, Joel. Sharon

I started working on my Trovillion line again, which lead me to the Waters family. Henry M. Waters was born 1817 in TN and married Eliza Jackson [dau of George Jackson & Susannah Vinyard] 1836 in Pope Co. Their known children were: Shadrach m. Mary Ann Wiseman; Malinda m. James Thomas Grisham; & William H. m. Sarah Missouri Jones. Can anyone help me with additional information? For those List members who might be researching German Ancestors, thought perhaps this website would be handy in deciphering German Script (handwriting). Try especially to note if the Census Enumerators might be trained in this handwriting: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inripchs/decipher.html We have managed to catch at least three family given-names and surnames that were misread due to a misunderstanding of the style of alphabet used.
Thanks for all this info and for trying to solve this mystery. Of course, the George whose wife was Sarah, and who indentured the two boys may have been the father of Joseph and the grandfather of George. I know of no other early Evitts except George, Plumber and Joseph who were indicted for the Sides' robbery in 1848. My guess is that Joseph was a young adult at that time - maybe 18-20??? I guess I need to look at the 1830 & 40 Pope Co. census to see how many people George had living with him. I think the name must have been Meron/Merron because this is what two different records show. Maybe the Merron's moved on west. Puzzling to say the least. Thanks again for this info.
