IL, Thursday, January 24, 1901: "John F. Godfrey was born in Cambridgeshire, England, June 12, 1823, and died Jan. 6, 1901, aged 77 years, 6 months and 24 days. He was one of a family of fourteen children, only two of whom are now living. His parents came to this country while he was quite young and settled in Belmont county, Ohio, where he resided until 1857, when he moved to Beverly, Ill., where he has since made his home. He was married to Helen Thorburn in 1850, by whom he had eight children, six of whom survive him. He became a charter member of the Congregational church of Beverly in 1859 and was always an earnest worker in the church and Sunday school, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was buried at the Mound Prairie cemetery."
