Nov. 24, 1883: After a pleasant visit among friends of three weeks duration, we shook the dust off our feet, or rather the mud and turned our faces homeward. We had for traveling companions, Mr. & Mrs. Mahlon Bill, who were coming to Laddonia to visit their daughter, Mrs. Will Rippey, also the noted lady lawyer, Miss Phoebe Cousins. It was our first meeting with the distinguished lady and we found her to be affable and entertaining, and best of all, a womanly woman. Time makes great changes in a short time and since my departure for Barry two houses have been made desolate by the loss of wife and mother."
