IL, Thursday, December 12, 1901: "Miss Louthada Hays was born in Ohio October 11, 1824, and departed this life at her home in Barry, Ill., December 6, 1901, aged 77 years, 1 month and 25 days. She was united in marriage to Andrew J. Divins June 13, 1841. There were born of this union ten children, five of whom are still living. She also leaves six grandchildren to mourn her loss as a loving mother and grandparent. The children are Mrs. D.D. Kidwell, of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. V. A. Pinkley, Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. W. T. Dyer, Thayer, Mo.; W. B. Divins, St. Louis, Mo.; C.A. Divins, Needles, Cal. Mrs. Divins united with the M.E. church in early life and said before departing that she believed it was well with her soul. Her husband died twenty years ago. Funeral services were conducted from her late home by Rev. W.M. Halley Sunday afternoon, December 8, at 2 pm, but interment was not made until Monday, at 10 a.m. waiting the arrival of a son, who did not come. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Parks lived with Mrs. Divins during her last illness and gave her every attention and sympathy in their power. Her own children could not have cared for her more tenderly.
