IL, Thursday, December 5, 1901, p1: "Death of Uncle Jake Funk. Has Lived in Beverly Over Half a Century. Was well known and highly respected by all. He came to Quincy in 1836, and purchased the farm in Beverly in 184(8?). He has lived there ever since. There was much sorrow in this city last Sunday when it was learned that "Uncle Jake" Funk had died at his home in Beverly township. He was a frequent visitor here and all knew and respected him. He was 86 years, 6 months and 6 days old. Mr. Funk took delight in telling of early times in this vicinity, where he had lived sixty-five years, and as he was an earnest and interesting talker, he always had attentive listeners. Mr. Funk was popularly known in this neighborhood as "Uncle Jake". He was born in Pennsylvania on May 25, 1818, and came to Quincy in 1836. That place was then but a frontier village and woodworkers were in demand. He found employment first with Gov. John Wood. Two years after he came to Quincy and just sixty-three years ago he was married to Miss May Sykes at Beverly. They made Quincy their home until 1848, when he purchased a farm in Beverly, which he occupied ever since. To farming he added the lumber business and an undertaking establishment. His life was passed in active pursuits, even during the past few years after he had passed four score years. In church matters he affiliated with the Methodists, and many members of the Beverly congregation will have cause to regret his death. Deceased is survived by two sons, two daughters, and a brother. The sons are Frank, of Decatur, and William, of Beverly. The latter is at present in Texas, and all day Sunday and Monday efforts were made to reach him by telegraph, but without avail. The daughters are Mrs. Orlando Havird, of Richfield, and Mrs. Thomas Shephard, of Barry. The brother is David Funk, of Baylis. The funeral will take place this Thursday morning at 10 o'clock." __ (I am not related to Jake Funk. Gerri)
