Jan. 11, 1884: " Mrs. Catharine Hays, relict of the late Richard Hays, of Hadley Twp., died at the residence of her son, Albert last Wednesday at the age of 78 years. About a week ago she received a fall and was injured to such an extent that she failed to recover. Mrs. Hays' maiden name was Bishop, and she was a native of Virginia. In company with her husband and family, she came to Illinois from Ohio in 1846, and since that date has been a resident of Pike county. She was the mother of a large family, a portion of which survives her. The funeral is to take place today."
