    3. Peg and all, Here is the information that I have for the United Brethren Church. I have added the information about my connection with Oscar Lewis Wilson and Illinois Quakers. Samuel Wilson (1786 - 1856) and wife Keziah (Lamb) were part of the Perquimans Co., NC Quakers. {Wilsons were Quakers in Perquimans Co. NC as early as 1683). Samuel's parents were Joseph Wilson and Lydia Albertson. Joseph's father was John Wilson.} Family rqct (transferred or moved) April 3, 1824, to White Water MM. They arrived in Wayne Co., IND. in 1824 but not sure of date. They may have gone to Washington MM (in Wayne County) first and then to West River MH. Samuel and Keziah are buried in the West River Quaker Cemetery, west of Economy. The rest of the Wilsons (most all) are buried in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, a United Brethren Cemetery, Wayne Co. Indiana. Son Nathan Wilson (1820-1855) married Minerva Lewis in Wayne Co in 1840. They apparently were not Quakers too long in Wayne Co, I think that they actually got kicked out of the Quaker Church because they helped to start the United Brethren Church at Greens Fork, Wayne Co, in 1849. Not sure what happened between 1824 and 1849. Son of Nathan was Oscar Lewis Wilson who was a farmer and a United Brethren minister. Oscar was reared on a farm, and received his early education at the country schools, after which he attended the college of Spiceland, Ind. about one year. He followed farming until about 1877, when he entered the ministry of the United Brethren Church, and in 1878 and 1879 traveled in the Osage Conference in Kansas, since which he has been traveling in the White Water Conference. He is a member of the Sugar Grove class of the United Brethern Church. (History of Wayne Co - 1884, p. 394) - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Oscar lived in Ames, Iowa in December 1901. He traveled to Sycamore, Illinois to perform the wedding of Carrel (his son) and Cora Mae Helson on Dec. 4, 1901. The newspaper clipping about the wedding stated that Oscar had lived in Sycamore a few years. No dates were given. Carrel (a doctor) had a medical practice in Burnside, Iowa at this time and the newly married couple resided there after the wedding. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oscar's address in the United Brethren Yearbooks from 1883-1891 is Greens Fork, IND, White River Conference. 1892 address is Lamar, MO, South Missouri Conference. Between 1892 and 1901, Oscar may have been in the Sycamore, DeKalb County, Illinois area for a couple of years. The marriage story of Carrel mentioned that this was the case. No date was given. Oscar may have been in the Pike County, Illinois area in 1895 since his first wife, Sarah Lamb Wilson, died at Baylis in New Salem Town Ship, Pike County, Illinois on July 3, 1895. However, their daughter Eva Inez Wilson married George Krwin Kendrick who was from Pittsfield, Pike Co., IL and they lived there after the marriage and raised their children there. 1901 address is Carlisle, Iowa, Rock River Conference. Oscar remarried between 1895 and 1901 to Madge Elder. Madge Wilson is listed as a witness to the marriage of Carrel and Cora Mae Helson. December 1901 he lived in Ames, Iowa. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oscar lived in Ames, Iowa in December 1901. He was pastor of the United Brethren Church in Donna in 1912. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oscar Lewis Wilson was a member of the United Brethren, New Constitution, UBC denomination after the split in 1889. They were referred to as "Liberals". They merged with the Evangelical Church in 1946 and took the name Evangelical United Brethren Church. In 1968 the EUB church merged with the Methodists and became United Methodist. Info from Jane Mason - jmason@doral.huntington.edu - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oscar Lewis Wilson died March 11, 1923 in Thompson Township, Guthrie County, Iowa. He is buried in the Dalmanutha Cemetery, Guthrie Co., Iowa. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sarah Lamb Wilson (Oscar's first wife) was a member of the United Brethren Church with her husband. Sarah died on July 3, 1895, in Baylis, Pike County, Illinois. Baylis is located in the New Salem township of Pike County. She is buried in the Baylis Cemetery. She is the only Wilson listed on the cemetery records. Daughter Eva Inez Wilson married George Irwin Kendrick who was born in Pike County, IL and the Kendrick family resided there after they were married and raised their children in Pike Co. This is why Sarah was in Pike Co. She may have been visiting Eva. I do not know for sure where Oscar was about this time. Hope this helps a little. If anyone can add anything to this let me know.
