Surnames: Cox-Smith-Patton Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kg.2ADI/1708 Message Board Post: Pike County Republican April 24, 1929 Mrs. Ella Cox Smith Ella C., oldest daughter of G.W. and Harriet Cox was born in South Pike County, Jan. 16, 1878 and passed suddenly to her reward, Sunday afternoon, April 14, 1929 at the age of 51 years, two months and 28 days. Ella was reared on a farm and came to Pearl more than twenty years ago, entering the employ of Dr. and Mrs. W.H. Garrison in whose home she remained until her marriage to Alonzo F. Patton, May 14, 1913. "Lon" as he was called by his friends was taken from her by death on Dec. 16, 1925. On Nov. 3, 1927 she was united in marriage with Melvin Smith, and they were living on Mr. Smiths farm when their union was severed by her untimely death. Ella obeyed the gospel when quite young, joining the church at Green Pond under Brother Booth, but when she came to Pearl she moved her membership to the Christian Church and became active in the work of the church. It can be said that she hath done what she could. In reflecting over the twenty years that I have known her I can see in her life the fruits of the spirit of Christ, such as love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness and of her Christian traits that make up the character that God will reward with enternal life. Ella had a wide circle of friends whose hearts were saddened by her passing. Besides her husband, she leaves four sisters, Mrs. Lola Bissel of Nebo; Mrs. Artie Goldman and Mrs Dora Foreman of Milton; and Mrs. Lenna Smith of Pittsfield; two brothers, Wesley Cox of near Pearl and William Cox of Pittsfield, and other relatives and friends to mourn her departure.
