Buchanan, son of William and Nancy Sidwell Buchanan, was born Jan. 25, 1885 near Nebo, the youngest of eight children. On Sept. 20, 1905 he married Miss Gussie Fielder and to this union was blessed with seven children, three of whom died in infancy. Lester attened the public school near the family home and also learned the art of farming which he followed as his lifes work. They moved to their present home south of Pleasant Hill in 1917 and here they reared their family, working hard to provide the neccessities and comforts of life. He was baptized by Elder Jesse C. Bunn in 1909 and became a member of the Church of Christ at Farmers Ridge, He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and M.W.A. He was a devoted husband and father, a dependable friend and neighbor, a trustworthly citizen and his sudden passing on Sunday morning Dec. 12 was a severe shock to his loved ones and all his acquaintances. He was 58 years 10 months and 17 days of age. Surviving are his faithful wife, four daughters, Mrs. George Williams of Hannibal, Mrs. Russell Brown of Pittsfield; Mrs. Raymond Smith at home and Miss Norma Buchanan of Ontario Calif.; two brothers, Alex of Fresno, Calif.; and John of Pittsfield, one sister Mrs. Ella Borrowman of Hannibal. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Baptist church of Pleasant Hill; C.C. Hanks of Pearl officiating. Burial was in Crescent Heights cemetery.
