Can you advise me of the best place to get a death record for Pike Co. in 1945. When I go to the Illinois Archives site, it indicates the dates don't include 1949 as allowable for certificates. When I went to the Pike Co Court house, the indication was that it didn't include the year 1945. Same for the list for Illinois Death Index. The one I want shows up in the Illinois Death Index, but the date is in red letters (certificate not available). I didn't think 1949 was so recent as to be a problem. Thanks. Barb
Barb, The red listings in the IL Statewide Death Index indicate that the record is not available at the IL State Archives and must be obtained from the county in which the death occurred. Any listing in the online index IS open and can be obtained from the appropriate source.
