ROCKFORD, RATCHFORD, RACHFORD, ROCHEFORD....etc? I have a RATCHFORD (1900 spelling) family who lived in the town of Eldiana, Pike Co. from 1860 through 1867 at least. I have been able to find them in the 1860 and 1865 census records. 1860: ROCHFORD, John 36 years from Ireland Mary 25 "" Bridget 4 KY Ann 3 KY William 1 KY ROCHFORD, Thomas 25 from Ireland (Thos stayed in IL...anyone know him?) 1865: ROCHFORD, John Mary Bridget Annie Wm Mary born IL c1860 Catherine born IL c1862 Margaret born IL c1864 Philip born IL c1865 Several children were born there between 1860 and 1867. Are there any birth or death records for the town / County anywhere? I have found birth and death records at Familysearch.org, but they are from 1877 and later. According to Everton's Handy Book for Genealogists, Pike County began to record births and deaths in 1877. Illinois did not begin statewide registration until 1916.
