Bain. Mary E., daughter of Rev. William and Nancy Hoyt, was born near Barry, Ill., October 30, 1849, and departed this life at her home in this city September 24, 1900, aged 50 years, 10 months and 24 days. She was married to A.H. Bain Sept. 15, 1867. Of this union there were born to them four children, three of whom are still living to mourn their loss, namely John, William and Myrtle. Carrie died only a few years ago, after growing to womanhood. Besides her husband and children she leaves three sisters, Mrs. J.B. Phillips of Kansas; Mrs. Wm. Jennings of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Hannah Grubb of this city, and two brothers, William and James Hoyt, also of this place. She was reared in a Christian home and surrounded from childhood by Christian influences. Her father, Rev. Wm. Hoyt, of sacred memory, was a local preacher in the Methodist church of Barry for many years. Sister Bain had been! a sufferer for many months, and realized for some time that she could not get well. She has been so patient all this time, always fearful lest she should cause some one some trouble. To her pastor, when he called, she always had a testimony of Christ's power to save and keep. She loved to have her pastor pray and sing, and enjoyed religious conversation. The end came peacefully. She had made everything ready, and so departed to be forever with the Lord. The funeral services were conducted from the M.E. church Tues., Sept. 25, at 3:30 pm by Rev. W.M. Hailey and interment made in Park Lawn cemetery."
