    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Frike, Bradshaw Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kg.2ADI/1782 Message Board Post: Barry Adage, Barry, IL, Jan. 5, 1899 John Christian Frike was born in Floto, Prussia, January 25, 1826. He came to America in 1846 and in 1850 came to Barry, Pike county, Ill., where he settled and established his home. On the 4th day of February, 1858, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Elizabeth Pryor. To this union were born four children, two of whom died in infancy. Mr. Frike proved himself a most desirable and prosperous citizen. Through persistent frugality and persevering industry he succeeded in amassing a very comfortable property. In the year 1840, while yet in his native country, he was confirmed in the Lutheran church. His friends and acquaintances, of whom there are many, bear testimony of his great kindness and generous heart. His friends speak only good of him. He seems to have been a very desirable companion among his old associates. During his sickness he was very patient and expressed himself as “ready to quit.” His last words were to this effect, that his work on earth was done and that he waned to go and leave room for younger men. He remarked that he had done what he could. He died Friday morning, December 30, 1898, just fifty-three years from the day he hnd landed in America. He had lived to the good old age of 72 years, 11 months and 5 days. He leaves to mourn his death two daughters, seven grand children and many other relatives. Thus Barry loses another of its old and long to be remembered citizens. The funeral services were held at the house on Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Young, of the Baptist church, officiating. A large number of his friends assembled to show respect and to do him honor.
