IL, Sept. 27, 1900 (in part): "Mrs. Jane Booth. Jane Howard was born in Orangeville, Penn., April 25, 1809. She was the daughter of Samuel Howard, who was a native of Virginia and a soldier of the Revolutionary war. She was married in the year 1828 to Andrew Booth and with her husband came to Barry, Ill., in 1845. Her life and and home were blessed with a family of eight children of whom six are still living. Her death, which occurred on Thursday morning, September 29, 1900, was like her life, very quiet and peaceful. Although away from home but very little for many years, yet Grandma Booth, as she was familiarly known, was known by nearly everybody in this section of Pike county. All held her in the highest esteem. Her favorite book was the Bible, the teachings of which she ever reverenced and loved. She leaves three sons, John, Abner and Harvey, who live in Barry, and three daughters, Mrs. Malinda Mayes of this city, Mrs. Emma Lindney of Broadhead, Wis., and Mrs. Harriet Gibson of Eldorado, Kan. She also leaves 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Of the children special mention is due her son John, who has remained at home during the prolonged old age of his mother, taking care of her as few sons have ever done."
