In the 1920 census Walter and Isabella lived in New Your City where he was a merchant of woman's clothing. they had a boarder, Julia Cowan but she doesn't seem to be any relation. Isabelle was born in Iowa and Walter in Missouri. In 1930 census, you found them in Pittsfield Illinois, Pike county where he is listed as a proprietor in a clothing store there. they have no children but her mother is now living with them. I found a listing for Rosenthal/Hobbs buried in the Pittsfield West cemetery but thelisting I looked at did not have dates or first names. I looked for Josephine Hobbs in Iowa prior to her living with her daughter. In the 1880 census for Iowa I found Alfred aged 41 and his wife Josephine 28. They were married in 1880. There was a servant named Christine Obrecht in the household. Alfred was a deputy clerk for the US court and Josephine was a teacher. In 1900 Josephine is now the head of household in Julien Dubuque Iowa and is a teacher. She has three children listed and a fourth who is deceased. the children are Isabella age 19 born in Oct 1880, in college....Snidey (could this be Sidney, mispelled??) age 17, an apprentice born Sept 1882 and Elisabeth aged 11 born 1887. A Josephine Whisler Hobbs of Pike county is listed in the death index as having died Dec 31 1932. I found two people researching Hobbs in Pike county...They may be able to help if their addresses are still valid. jerrys@ns.net and djreed526@adelphia.net
