October 11, 1911: "Miss Martha Coburn, daughter of Nelson and Nettie Coburn, was born at Beverly, Ill., February 18, 1887, and died at Virginia, Ill., September 28, 1911, which makes her age 24 years, 7 months and 10 days. She was married to Truman Shumway at Virginia, Ill., on May 27, 1911, being married only four months. She was converted at the age of 15 and united with the Holiness church, and continued in that faith until her death. Those who formed an intimate personal friendship with her will recall many instances of her abiding faith in all that is good and true. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, father and three sisters, besides other relatives and friends."
