She was the daughter of Zoe Valera (Curtis) Jackson.Zoe was living with her grandparents Martin & Jane Curtis. Zoe`s grandparents would`nt let her keep her baby, so members of the family took Mary Elizabeth to Michael, Illinois & had her baptized in the Catholic Church & then took her on to Alton, Illinois & put her up for adoption at the Alton Catholic Childrens Orphanage.
