Hello, I am new to the list and this is my first post. My gr grandmother was Sarah MAISE/MAYS. (The correct spelling is MAISE, but when Sarah remarried Charles LEONARD, it was spelled MAYS.) She married him in 1876 in Morgan Co., IN, but they moved to Illinois, bringing his children from a former marriage, and her son, Andrew Harrison MAISE. The story is, the family lived in a log cabin between Hull, IL, and Hannibal, MO, and that Sarah died in the flood (don't know if she drowned or got sick) and her body was taken out in a boat. Was Hannibal the nearest town where her body would be taken, and if so, where would she be buried or how can I get her death record? My question is..... was there a big flood in this area around 1878? Or when was there a flood in this area around this time? Someone had written her death date as 1888, but that can't be right because Charles Leonard was already remarried and living with a new wife in 1880 census. You can see my problem....both of my grandfather's birth parents died between censuses. So far I have have been unable to find James MAISE's death record or their marriage record in Indiana. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
