We have both Humphreys and Umphreys here in Schuyler County Illinois, some of whom migrated into Ralls and Pike County Missouri - a few of them got scattered in between; maybe your Pike County Illinois too, just across the river from Pike County Missouri. The genealogy section of the Jail Museum in Rushville, in Schuyler County, has extensive family histories that include both spellings. Myself, I have primarily Umphreys, with a few Humphrey spellings in the same family, circa 1850.
