The funeral was conducted in the Hanks funeral home at 2 p.m. Monday and burial was in Miller cemetery. Mr. Crater was a son of Abraham and Eliza Crater and was born near Michael, in Calhoun County, Jan. 10, 1866. He came with his parents to Pearl township in 1878 and spent the rest of his life there, following his occupation of farming and fruit growing. He was an expert in packing apples and his services were always in demand. Mr. Crater was an honest, dependable citizen, a good neighbor, always ready to help his fellow man. In 1889 he was married to Lona Ownings and two sons were born to them. Mrs. Crater died April 23, 1937. He is survived by two sons, Edward and Dixie of Pearl; a stepson William Newman of East Alton; four grand-daughters; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Jackson and Mrs. Mina Owings.
