    1. [ILPIKE] Re: Deeter Family
    2. I was going through the pension files of James Parrack and this information was in the files. There was a question about whether James was legally married to the woman who filed for the pension so they did and investigation and some of the Deeter's were questioned because James went in the service with William Henry Deeter and was suppose to have married Sophronia Osborne's sister but it was her stepmother instead. William Henry Deeter's first wife was named Mountain, no first named mentioned. She died 6 to 8 months after William joined the service. No children. It really doesn't state whether she did in KY or IL. It could have been in Kentucky because later testimony referred to her dying and she was with him in Kentucky. His second wife was Sophronia Osborne. They were married at Clarksville, Morgan, TN in 1864 by an army chaplain of the 83 IL Infantry. William was in the Co H 2nd IL Light Artillery. Henry and Phrony (was her nick name) had nine children: nine boys and one girl. The family moved from Pike Co. IL to Harvard Nebraska. That is where most of the family is today. William died in Clay Centre Nebraska July 27, 1915. They moved to Nebraska about 1890. Somewhere in the affidavits it mentioned where Sophronia from falling down their root cellar stairs and broke her neck. No dates given. Children Mentioned: William H. Deeter Jr, Henley, Nebraska, Mrs. Gertrude Hand, Mitchell, Nebraska, Charles Deeter, Stratton Nebraska, Ben Deeter deceased, (wife lived in Exeter, Nebraska), Elmer Deeter, Bayard, Nebraska, Joseph Deeter, Lusk Wyoming William had 3 brothers Daniel, Baylis, IL, Alpheus R and James Deeter. In 1913 they all live in Pike Co. James Deeter, affidavit, he was 65 in May of 1923, occupation, farmer. P.O. Box Fishhook, IL. Alpheus R. Deeter Waverly, IL. He was 68 in 1923. Nothing else given. In August 1923 apparently he move to Jacksonville, IL. I hope this makes some sense to someone. The info was rather scattered and I wrote it as best I could. Nancy
