You are right they are not the children of John and Elizabeth. Their children were son William E. Gray b. 1856 and a daughter A. H. Gray b. 1858 according to the 1860 census for Griggsville. James and Emma would have to be John and Nancy's children although they are not listed on the 1850 or 1860 census. I wonder if Emma died in 1854 instead of 1864? I really appreciate you taking the time to look this up. I live in Iowa and when I visited the library in Barry I didn't have time to check all the cemeteries in the book there. Thanks again.
