Surnames: Collins Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kg.2ADI/1533 Message Board Post: Obituary from Pike County Democrat (Pittsfield, Pike County, IL); Thursday April 26, 1866: Died in Griggsville on Friday, the 20th, of typhoid fever, Capt. James A. Collins, aged about 64 years. The subject was one of the oldest and most respectable citizens of this county, having located here in 1833. The writer has enjoyed his acquaintance and friendship for a period of thirty years, and possessed opportunities which few others enjoyed, for gaining an insight into his inner life, and can truthfully say that no man was more tenacious in his adherence to the principles of truth and justice, than he. If any disliked him, it was because they did not know him, for he had only to be known and understood, to be liked. As a husband and father he was always kind and confiding. He leaves a wife and daughter to bear the crushing weight of this terrible affliction. PS: Griggsville Cemetery, Griggsville, Illinois: Capt. James A. Collins 1 July 1800-20 Apr 1866; Jane (Stevens) Collins, wife, 4 Aug 1802-23 Jan. 1854. (I am not related to James Collins - only copied the obituary from the newspaper while researching my own line in Pike Co. - Gerri)
