Dorothy- My ggg-grandmother was Jane (Mulherin) Barton b. 16 Sep. 1801, Ruddells Station, Ky. d. 1866 Paynesville, Pike Co., MO. She m. Benjamin F. Barton 2 Aug. 1817, Adams, OH. They were early settlers in Pike/Lincoln Co Mo. They lived near the Pike/Lincoln Co line. Records sometimes recorded them in Pike and sometimes in Lincoln. The Barton family is the same that is later associated with Pike Co.,Ill. The rest of this note was information provided to me by others. I have not re-proved all of this information, but I have no reason to doubt it at this time. Grace Clark of Streator, Il told me in 1975 that Jane's father was John Mulherin & mother was Elizabeth Ruddell. Elizabeth was the sister of Rev. Stephen Ruddell, who along with Elizabeth and another child ,Amos, was captured by Shawnee indians at the Ruddells Station. Much of this is written about by Lymon Draper in the latter 1800s. The original Draper Manuscripts are at the Univ. of Wisconsin, but you should be able to search the internet for much if this information. Search for "Ruddell's Station". The Charles Mulherin you inquire about (1860 Pike Census) must be related to this family, because according to information provided to me by Frank Neher says John Mulherin's father was also a Charles Mulherin. It is likely that Charles (1860 census) was Jane's brother. John & Elizabeth Mulherin migrated to Pike Co., MO at the same time as their daughter Jane Barton. Here is the information provided to me by Frank Neher: John Mulherin b. 15 Jan 1758, Lancaster, PA m. 31 Jan 1789, Bourbon Co.,KY; d. 20 Feb 1850 Paynesville, Pike Co.,MO. Elizabeth (Ruddell) Mulherin b. 26 Aug 1776, Virginia; d. 25 Oct 1854, Clarksville,Pike,MO. John's father: Charles Mulherin Jr. b. abt 1743, Ireland d. 7 Mar 1789, Abbeville, SC. wife unknown. Charles' father: Charles Mulherin Sr. b. abt 1710, Ireland d. bef. 1789, Abbeville, SC. I would be glad to provide additional information if I can. Sincerely, Greg Sippel Overland Park, Kansas
