I'm looking for death info or obit for Thomas Wilkins b. 1818 and Mary Tull Wilkins b. about 1820, both in OH, but moved to Pike co IL in 1850. I went to Pittsfield Library and went thru microfilm for hours, i had an approx year of death...there was no obit...but the paper back then wasn't really in any organized fashion where obits/ births would be in a specific section. I looked at Perry column and eventually found a snippet about Prof. J.M. Wilkins in town for his father Thomas Wilkins' funeral. that was in the Nov.28, 1900 issue. The librarian told me that obits were usually paid for in those days by the family..so if the family didn't pay..info would only possibly be put in as general info by town. this gives me a place to start...but i thought this info would be helpful as another way to find info, but it is tedious and time consu! ming--sometimes there is no other way. I had no other choice, no death records online or in Pike co courthouse, no obit, no tombstone, not in any Pike co. cemetery lists...they might have gone back to OHiO to be buried...but it did mention that the son came home to Perry IL for the funeral....if anyone has any info please...or any new ideas....please help...i have lost them. one last thing, while i was going thru the newspapers, i would copy some of the obits when i found them and some of the gossip columns if a specific name was mentioned...they are very hard to read..so i will do my best ...i'm going to try to send names and obits soon .
