I don't know where you want to research, but I live at Pittsfield, IL, which is the county seat, and the court house would be the first place I would want to research, unless you want something earlier than what they have. The court house is located in the center of Pittsfield business district, if you come in on US highway 54 it will take you right by the court house. They are open from 8 to 4 or 4:30 Monday through Friday. The county clerk's office has births, deaths, marriage licenses. You can't look at those that have a social security number. Also, there is only so much that you can see on births. The library has a lot of books, censuses, (some of the census are in book form) they also have a computer that I think that you can use. The library is one block from the square where the court house is. It is one block west of the northwest corner of the square. I think that I can tell you what hours they are open. Not open on Sunday. Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tues., Wed. Thurs. open from one to 8 p.m. Fri--open from one to 5--I think this is correct, but could be open longer. Sat. Open from 9 to 3. There is a good library in Barry, IL (In Pike County), but I do not know their hours. They have a lot for us that are looking for some of our ancestors. The library phone number is 217-285-2200. The court house also have phones if you are interested.
I AM WONDERING IF LUCILLE LONG IS RELATED TO A GEORGE LONG WHO LIVED IN ATLAS IN THE LATE 1800'S AND MARRIED A DAUGHTER OF DANIEL AND MATILDA (SMITH) MORGAN.
